Europol's Global Food Fraud Crackdown

Recommended Posts

From olives painted with blue copper sulphate to monkey meat and sugar laced with fertiliser, Europol and Interpol have seized 10,000 tonnes of fake food in their biggest global operation to date in 57 different countries.

Fake chocolate, sweets and soft drinks aimed at children were discovered by police authorities in Hungary, Italy, Lithuania and Romania. British authorities discovered nearly 10,000 litres of fake or adulterated alcohol, including wine, whiskey and vodka, while in France 11 kilos of locusts and 20 kilos of caterpillars were seized and destroyed. Customs officers at Zaventen airport in Belgium intercepted several kilos of monkey meat. http://www.foodanddrinkeurope.com/Financial/Painted-olives-monkey-meat-fertiliser-sugar-Europol-s-global-food-fraud-crackdown

What do they with locusts and caterpillars - make them into burgers?

Its often touted as the way forward to meet global food demands - eating insects - but look at the prices at the moment! 11k of Locusts are probably worth a fair bit in Europe.
