Frank Sinatra Jr Rip

Recommended Posts

...he's died aged 72. Had been fighting prostate cancer but apparently succumbed to a heart attack.

Probably no good for the celebrity death sweepstake but nonetheless worth a thread IMO. My best mate is a Sinatra obsessive so I saw him twice last year on his 'Sinatra Sings Sinatra' tour for the 100th anniversary of Frank Sr's birth, very enjoyable. But my best memory of him will be seeing him at Ronnie Scott's a year or two before that- he opened the show with a version of Dr Hook's 'What a way to go' that blew my socks off.

RIP Frankie.

I wonder why this makes the news? Sad that he is dead but he was just one of those impersonator acts wasn't he? What next - stop the headlines when the Bootleg Beatles or Bjorn Again retire?

That's a tad unfair TMT. I've never been a fan, but as I understand it he was quite a legend in his own way.

Mind you, I'd be sad if the bootleg Beatles packed it in! So I may be talking tosh.

I didn't mean to insult his passing. Just fed up that we are now supposed to angst over the sons and daughters of the famous.

I hear that he was a good singer and that he had a complex relationship with his dad. Perhaps they are singing a duet even as I type.

I actually posted as I assumed it wouldn't make the news; and having seen Jr live three times I knew I'd seen a talent that the mainstream had passed by. As a tribute act to his dad he was merely good enough.

But as a band leader and arranger he was out of the very top drawer; a true musical talent. When Frank Snr was flaking it was Jr who kept the show on the road, and as I said, I had a fantastic time at his show at Ronnie Scott's.
