The Estate We're In - Bbc

Recommended Posts

Seems RTB is not the road to riches and tranquility its made out to be. <_<

Not seen he program yet, it was on last night, but I saw the prequel on yesterdays BBC Breakfast. Surprised no thread on this.

Sorry, no link, I foolishly used IE and I can't copy and paste and If I use the 'link' button it locks the browser. Not sure if this is an IE or HPC issue but its been happening ever since IE11. Just Google the subject title for the link.

Edit - Edge browser delivers!

Certainly not in this case, the average offer via CPO was circa £210-220,000 - about half what an equivalent new build flat cost. Making a profit on an RTB property is a mixed blessing if it gets compulsorily purchased & the purchase price isn't enough to allow the purchase of anything else within miles of where you've lived most of your life.

Quite interesting & at the same time depressing viewing.

One of the leaseholders traded her 3 bed maisonette for a 1 bed new build flat - shared equity. Doesn't seem very fair at all. Their service charges and ground rents will probably be higher as well. :( Joe (?) had the right idea by leaving London alogether.

Really felt sorry for Dorothy, an unsecure tenant moved into emergency housing that was costing the council (if I have this correct) £71 per night. She couldn't move her stuff out of the flat quick enough when she was evict. She was treated dreadfully.

However, those new flats actually didn't seem bad at all to me - but not £300k nice The new residents seem to agree that they were spacious. Generous sized balconies too.
