Awful idiot landlord on right now. Went into negative equity so can't afford to sell. Only solution... let it out! :-S

Annoying that the presenter doesn't call her out for making NO SENSE. In fact whilst I'm writing he's sympathizing. Urgh.

She's just exposed the truth. She's holding onto her flat for her son. But she's complaining she'll have to pay an extra 3% if she wants to move. Ha! Sometimes, I quite like Osbourne.

There is an angry tenant kicking ar5e though :)

Its based on article on the Guardian about Young people being unable to afford to start a family due to high rents

MSM really starting to question pricing at last ...

Article in standard yesterday business leaders in London saying housing is big issue , workers not productive when having to either travel long distances ( with great expense) to work or live in shared accomodation

The "lovley landlord" that just want to provide clean homes warns that the tax changes mean it might not be affordable for him any more and people will loose their homes.

So these homes will just cease to exist if the btl guys business folds?

What a useless show that didn't go into any of the real issues.

Just tuned in, and most of what I heard was about hard done by LL's!

I heard a landlady who expects us to feel sorry for her...eg bad tenants who she has to clear up after, extra tax she has to pay.

Doesn't she realise it is a business and in business you have to take the hits.

When the presenter questioned why she can't sell any of her portfolio to help, he said she had bought most as ex council houses up North, and they are hard to sell.

Unbelievable how the governmenment have allowed our social housing to be sold off to people like this on the cheap, just to allow them to re-let the properties on overpriced private rents, via HB!

The phone-in was 9am -10am. The time the people who are *actually* out working to get the extortion payment for the rentiers are out doing it. It was no surprise that those sitting on their backside able to phone in were the rotund landlords!

Rents have gone absolutely nuts where I am currently. My mate is increasing his flat by 18% just to meet the market rate.

Demand has gone crazy as prices have shot up.

They've recently woken up to the fact that their little Tarquin's and Abbey's are having to live in a shoe-box somewhere outside Zone 6 and are angry that despite them spending oodles on Uni courses in Media studies for their offspring, they are stuffed. Royally.

They live in zones 1-2 in a big HPI mansion/flat, but their kids and grandkids won't visit often as they'll be hours away by car or even better, they'll have emigrated. All due to HPI.

:D:D

Not where I am in Milton Keynes. I'm seeing houses for rent (and these were ones that they couldn't sell) sit on the rental market at the same prices as 18 months ago.

The demand must be somewhere else then.

Good point....

...and reminds me of the huge amount of people we see on these property shows saying they gave up their jobs to become BTL'ers or property developers.

Homes Under the Hammer, for example, gives out the impression, there is no need to do a real job any more, when you too can be successful by buying cheap, adding a bit of magnolia, then either selling at a profit, or renting out.

That and also London business do not like high rents because they are the ones that are being forced to pay them indirectly via wages.....can't get the staff!!!

I'd guess London business rents are just as pricey as domestic rents as well.....

How many more programmes or radio shows and headlines harping on about this issue, yet nothing every gets done about it. Whats in the budget a nice tax break for Landlords I guess?

I went to school with them. I've managed to convince many Oliver and Olivia's how t'other side of the socio-economic scale get shafted, so i suppose their parents finally waking up to the fact that their sojourns based on unadulterated Landlordism can affect the very offspring they so cherish is a welcome sign.
