Good to hear that they afforded this subject the amount of time they think it deserved. 4 Minutes I think. Dedicating the next 20 minutes to trying to find the kids who sang on the Wizzard Christmas Number 2 single of 1973

. Upshot of it was: Firsttime buyers can't afford to get on the housing ladder because houses are expensive <_< and that's the way it is. In many areas there's no real solution.... We'll see.

Didn't hear it but guess that they failed to draw the logical conclusion. Houses now too expensive for all but a few FTBs so prices must fall until people can afford to buy the houses that are for sale.

First Rule of Property - Do not talk about prices falling.

Second rule of property - DO NOT talk about prices falling!

We've been desperately looking to buy a house. There are not that many which we can afford unless we wanted to live in a cr@p hole. For moment we have given up hope buying a house. We are hoping to get a council house in the near future, however this looks very bleak too.

"have you given up trying to buy a house...?"

WHY DO people put it that way?

Another way would be:

Do you think it makes sense to buy as a FTBer at current prices?

Im sure many would want to buy if prices were right.

People here are no so stupid as to buy at any price, are they?

We have given up looking for the time being.

There's no point wasting our time trying with the high prices.

Even if you had the cash to buy outright, it would not be logical to do so.

Its easy to say for those who've already owned a house before perhaps, but some people really should ask themselves why they want to own so badly.

Once you own a house the novelty wears off quite soon. Unlike your mortgage which will take a hell of a long time to wear off if things stay as they are.

To be honest, we just want a home to live in where we can bring up our daughter. We are not really bothered about owning our own home at the moment but would like to eventually. We can't afford private rent because it's just as expensive as a mortgage. Our only hope at the moment is a council house.
