Facebook has agreed to pay millions of pounds in tax to the British Government after a key overhaul of its tax structure.

According to the BBC, income from Facebook’s largest advertisers will now be taxed in the UK after the company announced stopping routing profits through Ireland.

This includes large consumer businesses such as Unilever, retailers such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s and major advertising companies such as WPP.

The profits will now be subject to corporation tax, of which it paid just £4,327 in 2014.

Changes are expected to be put in place in April, with the first, new tax bill to be paid in 2017.

Its a cost of doing business nothing more. MPs know very well that they need to play to public perceptions. The public barely understand how a balance sheet or P&L works. Profit can be whatever you choose it to be based on costs and investment e.g share buy backs or new product innovation or additional bonuses.. Unfortunately the MPs perform their circus acts as a straight forward shakedown system. We threaten you and you pay up a bit more or else. Its not exactly the way to run a country corporation tax system, but as the Mafia have found over the ages, its very effective.

Facebook, Google and Amazon all give back door, on-demand data to governments (PRISM, whistle-blown by Ed Snowdon) in exchange for cosy tax deals. This is just a cosy tax deal. April 2017 will roll around, and yes, Facebook will pay "millions" in tax which will strangely represent about 1% of Facebook's profits after newer legal workarounds to the new rules, and Osborne will say it's a victory for the tax payer just as he said £130M tax from Google over 10 years was a victory.

I have to ask....Why the f**k are people still using FB.

They got millions of people to sign up then floated off the back of this....did they dish out the money to their stake holders ?

Do they now try and advertise at their customers ?

Total bollax

If you're asking these questions - I don't think you're the target market. Its like asking if BP deliver petrol after they spend money digging up oil. advertising and finance are the new mining and construction....let's see if we can convince the masses this is true.
