Independent Ending It's Print Edition.

We are increasingly being starved of news, so much so that the actual news content we see on a day to day basis is actually shrinking. There was actually more relevant news available 50, 100, 200 years ago than there actually is today.

The lower the level of news reporting the easier it is to control, polarise and direct opinion among the general population.

The demise of the newspaper will ultimately rank along with the fall of the pub, social club and unions in significance.

Digital media is a double edge sword.

Yeah all hail Murdoch. Job done.

I hope all newspapers shut down or go online only. Making more people use the Internet to get their news means they will get exposed to the truth more often.

And the bull of course.

There's so little UK news they have to use foreign news as a filler.

It's pretty amazing how they filled their pages with mostly UK news before global news emphasis became PC.

Considering how much news distortion there is even losing all mainstream print and digital news wouldn't be much of a miss. Even the FT is a pale shadow of its past.

Losing real in-depth journalism, the stuff that takes time and effort to research is actually a problem and a big loss, but thats happening even to the papers which are staying in business.

Everyone is following the Daily Mail model of snappy headlines and made-up on the spot sensational "content"

Sounds good.

Except in practice, most people get news on the internet via feeds on their facebook.

Most cannot tell between sponsored/paid for/ ads presented as news. It was bad enough when the papers regurgitate press releases, but when algorithms start making your feeds suited only to content you agree with and feed you straight ad based articles then things are going to be interesting. In a bad way.

Only people like Jimmy in South Park this can save us:

You can have news aggregator apps that you can select to give you different opinions and news but the sheer scale of what is to come is going to give people more news than ever but less ability to decipher subjects.

The BBC, as pro=establishment as it is, can still serve some public good. The good thing with papers dying, is to see how much Murdochs rags remain popular, esp with the DailyMail being the king of click-bait in the UK for the masses.
