No, media ramping it up because they are gagging for that story.
happy_renting
If they are lucky they will get goodie bags with ipods, and bad-fitting civilian clothes like some RN sailors did a few years back. The Iranians played that humiliation out for the Navy quite expertly.
Frank Hovis
Iran holds OUR boats and sailors. Where did you go to school?
happy_renting
Hmmm... 2 boats supposedly being sailed from Kuwait to Bahrain end up allegedly in Iranian waters after 'mechanical problems'. Why did the working boat not take the faulty one in tow? Or did both really have mechanical problems? Routine journey, or special op gone wrong? stormymonday_2011
Damned Ay-rabs. Let's nook 'em. Now calling an Iranian an Arab is likely to start a fight.

A bit like the U.S. Navy routinely straying into North Vietnamese waters prior to the Gulf of Tonkin incident. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Tonkin_incident

RichB
But how do we know they are not Iranian body doubles, sent to infiltrate the US Nayvee? How do you know they hadn't already done so and this was just an elaborate ruse to deliver some polonium initiators back to their handlers? LC1
Likely just seeing how Iran would respond. I suspect they would have loved a much more dramatic reaction, but it seems they decided not to take the bait.
