Well, it's an interesting development the BoE is not used to. As renting has risen so dramatically, especially amongst the age groups who tend to spend the most, tweaking interest rates has no effect on demand

Now they need to tweak house prices...i.e. tweak them 50% down.

As renting has risen so dramatically, especially amongst the age groups who tend to spend the most, tweaking interest rates has no effect on demand in the economy at all. They will still be working with the old rule book. All low rates do these days is accelerate the gobbling up of the housing market by BTL 'investors'.

A very good point. Could be why Carney is so twitchy.

It's an interest rates must stay low propaganda piece.

I agree, I think that is the only reason they added mortgages into the mix. I can't imagine there are that many families that are hard up due to current mortgage costs!

It's the fatal flaw in the rentier mindset- the more rent they extract the more they shut down the economy that provides the wages from which those rents must be paid.
