Retail Sales Show Worrying Signs For Uk Economy

Recommended Posts

Went to Lidil Saturday afternoon and loads of the posh nosh was reduced with 30% off asking price. Asda is stacked to the brim with cheap food that nobody wants either, even with fresh Ducks for a fiver nobody wants them.

Morrisons were selling fresh lamb legs £4/kg, fresh salmon £4/kg, fresh beef roasting joints also £3.95/kg everywhere. these must be the cheapest prices for about 15 years!

Lots of veg around for 30p too, spuds are cheap his year.. Managed to wangle some Martini Asti from tesco 3.25/bottle by using two different money off vouchers.

Food & drink has certainly come down a lot since 2008/2009.

I think the food prices are less about consumption in the UK and more about global food prices. Many countries have seen their economies and currencies weaken. The temptation for sellers is to try and dump product on places where they still get the best prices until they push them down there too.

And the Russian embargo either directly or indirectly.

Deflation?

Yeah, I have noticed that too. Several people have mentioned that it does not feel Christmassy.

I think a lot of this is genuinely down to the weather and peoples expectations that Christmas is cold and frosty. I must admit the Christmas music seems a little odd whilst I'm walking around in jeans and t-shirt during the weekend.

Without the cold it's just another holiday period.

I've noticed far fewer Christmas decorations this year, anyone else noticed the same or is it just my area?

Didn't get the tree out of the attic until yesterday. For a while, it looked like we wouldn't bother at all.

To be fair, went to M&S yesterday. It was rammed in the food department. Though bizarrely not so much at the actual tills. Don't really know why you would go in that sort of shop just to look. Maybe they are now able to checkout your items much more efficiently than normal!!

Far too warm for Christmas. They are predicting 17 degrees in London/South today.

The warm stops people from shopping and stops people from eating so much. I would expect sales to be down quite a lot across the board.
