I very much now feel the benefit system in the UK is their to redistribute the middle classes money and benefit the rich by forcing money that the middle classes would use to invest, benefit themselves or save, into the hands of the rich/corporations.

someone needs to ask, who benefits from benefits.

This is 100% correct.It was always so.The rich first used it simply to stop people taking their land off them.Now like you say it has evolved.Its a very useful way of the rich taking from the middle class who might save it and retire,and giving it to the poor/lower paid who then spend it with the rich.

The government know very well 20/30% of the population will never work,or do more than the minimum.If those who do work hard all retire in their 50s the government is in serious trouble.The only defence the middle class/working working class have is to learn to be frugal and live on much less.The first part of that is understanding bidding house prices up and debt is the main prop the government use to keep them at the coalface.
