Us Air Force Running Out Of Bombs To Drop On Isis

Things must be going well in the "war on terror," as the US Air Force just admitted that it is fast running out of bombs to drop on ISIS after "B-1s have dropped bombs in record numbers." As ZeeNews reports, Air Force chief of staff General Mark Welsh said as America ramps up its military campaign against the Islamist terror group, the Air Force is now "expending munitions faster than we can replenish them."

The US Air Force is fast running out of bombs to drop on ISIS targets in Syria and Iraq after its pilots fired off over 20,000 missiles and bombs since the US bombing campaign against the terror group began 15 months ago, its chief has said. As ZeeNews reports,

"B-1s have dropped bombs in record numbers. F-15Es are in the fight because they are able to employ a wide range of weapons and do so with great flexibility. We need the funding in place to ensure we're prepared for the long fight,"
Welsh said in the statement.
"This is a critical need," he said.
The bombing campaign has left the US Air Force with what an Air Force official described as
munitions depot stocks "below our desired objective."
The Air Force has requested additional funding for Hellfire missiles and is developing plans to ramp up weapons production to replenish its stocks more quickly. But replenishing that stock can take "up to four years from time of expenditure to asset resupply," the official told CNN.
"The precision today's wars requires demands the right equipment and capability to achieve desired effects.
We need to ensure the necessary funding is in place to not only execute today's wars, but also tomorrow's challenges,"
the official said.

A Keynesian boost to the economy? Dropping bombs are great expenditure boost as they are a single use item. Although if the US is running out of bombs there are plenty of unexploded ones in the Vietnam area they could recovery and reuse....

I think this is FUD.

The US bombing of Syria/Iraq and Afghanistan in recent years is much smaller than the several weeks of bombing of Iraq in GW2.

The only way they would be running out of bombs is if the US military machine had not restocked since GW2 which, considering the huge US military weapon machine, is highly unlikely.

They might be running out of weapons allocated to this campaign though.

If the USAF have dropped 20,000 bombs on Syria/Iraq then what an admission of failure. Time for this nonsense of dropping 50K to 500K USD bombs on 4x4s was stopped. War is war and destruction of the enemy is the name of the game.

The cost of a Paveway II laser guided bomb is about $22k apparently, although it may tot up to $50k if you include the 'delivery charge'.

The main point isn't blowing up a Toyota pickup with a machine gun bolted on the back and 4 jihadis inside though - it's that and making all their mates terrified of driving anywhere without constantly scanning the skies for invisible drones. All those captured Humvees and armoured cars become death traps.

Although if they've dropped anything remotely like 20,000 bombs/missiles on IS then the attrition inflicted on them must be horrific by now, given that IS supposedly have ~30,000 'militants' in the field.

And Syria/Iraq should be pot-holed to feck.

If you believe that most of them actually hit their targets, rather than civilians, goats or empty desert.

It's certainly amazing that they have been unable even to put their oil production and distribution facilities out of action.

The original article is misleading. All that has happened is that munitions have been depleted below some nominal reserve figure.

So they will make more.

Which is the point of the war. To keep the MIC in profitable business.

We're always told that a penny dropped from the top of a very tall building can kill, so why bother turning the money into bombs?

Just drop pennies.

Just drop pennies.

Though it may be hard to believe, bombing is more about destroying infrastructure than killing people. Pennies might kill people, but not damage buildings, etc., that much.
