Adaptation of a novel by John Lanchester who wrote the non-fiction book Whoops! Why everyone owes everyone and no one can pay which is for my money the best short and accessible primer for the lay audience on the mechanics of the financial crisis.

So is this a property 'negative' story ?

Yes. The novel charts the lives of a number of different families who live on the road. It is set in a fictional road in Clapham, which has of course undergone a enormous change over the past 30-odd years. The banker and his high-maintenance wife are pretty hilarious. Definitely worth watching.

Well that was the biggest load of cliche ridden 30 minutes I've seen in a looong time. Pathetic.

Agree got the book a couple of years ago stopped two chapters in. However a much better book and current series and news story is this on Amazon prime - The man in the High Castle (funny title but great book)

Ridley Scott Directed as well

^ I know, lets not depict people that have lived here for over 40 years just because they're brown...

-

It was interesting; especially the old lady who's daughter wants her gaff cos its worth millions. It's not everyday you have a primetime drama about the house prices.

Had read the book some time ago and enjoyed it. Couldn't watch last night since had a guest.

Watched tonight - I thought it was well done. Shall have to re-read the book now.

Quite a change for Toby Jones from The Detectorists! (Which is about my only must-watch prog. at the moment)

Should have watched the whole hour then ...brilliant

So all the cliches disappeared then? The nasty money-grubbing people became sympathetic & all the wonderful ethnically diverse people became nasty? is that what happened?

None of the characters I saw were anything like anyone I've ever met. Caricatures all.

A million miles from the sublimely subtle & lyrical Detectorists.
