The chef reportedly plans to build a five bedroom villa with a swimming pool, and a three-bedroom boathouse. Ramsay bought the property in Rock earlier this year. Councillor Carol Mould said St Minver Lowlands Parish Council was notified of the pre-application at its last meeting. Fashionable addressMrs Mould said: "Rock is notoriously a place for second homes, and particularly high-end second homes." However, she said she did not foresee any tension with local residents. He will have been told there was no chance at all of getting permission to build a brand new home in the area but buying a house for the express purpose of destroying it and building over where it used to stand is fine, for the right bribe (CIL) of course. Seen it before in West Lancs (90.86% green belt). In Britain only people with access to £million+ finance can provide their own shelter. Of course his reputation as a chef/hotelier (who unfortunately goes bust sometimes) gives it credibility and I have no doubt he knows about the staff/customer end of kitchens/hotels, but it feels like he was told "The only way you can pull in some bucks is to go out on the road again, and keep going" like an old bluesman who thought the record company would pick up the tab forever. He says things like, "Look at this location, and the catchment area is full of money, I would love to own this hotel", if he had the money surely he could pick up a hotel or three in America or wherever, or has he already done this and the TV stuff is just about his profile? [more at link] http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-34891132 ..the main value of the property in this case is in the land not the building ..and it will be VAT free for building materials for a new house ......if there is any issue here it should be that second homes need to be taxed heavily in this land of few houses with a growing population ....and businesses will not move to high cost second home areas as housing prices are too high ....the brains in government need to apply WD40 ...and come up with a simple solution ...as we know anyway.... Parish council minutes "PA15/03276/REAPP, Lanarth, Rock Road, Rock pre-application advice for replacement dwelling and construction of guest annexe (boathouse).
