Spain Issues Arrest Warrant For War Criminal Netanyahu

Recommended Posts

Israel wants to quash an arrest warrant prepared by a Spanish judge for Benjamin Netanyahu over the deadly 2010 IDF attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla that killed ten people.

The Israeli PM and six other former ministers would be arrested if they set foot on Spanish soil.

Judge Jose de la Mata, who drew up the warrants, ordered the police and civil guard to notify them if any of the seven enter Spain.

Israeli Defence forces carried out a deadly attack on the Freedom Flotilla aid ship Mavi Marmara, which was attempting to bring supplies to Gaza, in contravention of an Israeli-imposed blockade.

The other Israelis who have been issued warrants are ex-foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman, ex-defense minister Ehud Barak, ex-deputy prime ministers Moshe Ya'alon and Eli Yishai, former state minister Benny Begin, and Israeli Navy commander Eliezer Marom.

The investigation began after Spanish activists that were part of the flotilla filed a criminal complaint against the Israelis involved in the raid.

Why don't we have judges with balls who do the same for war criminals Tony Blair and George Bush?

Interesting. Haven't the Spanish done this kind of thing a few times? Wasn't some foreign visitor detained here a few months back because Spain asked us to arrest them?

In the case of Netanyahu it seems a shame to go for an incident that was pretty minor in the global scheme of things compared to the whole tearing up of the 1993 peace agreement and everything that followed. I guess it was just what they could get a handle on.

Ha ha! Yes I would like to see that. I lost all respect for the Labour Party after the WMD nonsense.

If they are arbitrarily issuing arrest warrants for random foreign nationals then where are the arrest warrants for Palestinian terrorists, for the North Korean leadership, Robert Mugabe, the Chinese government for their imprisonment and torture of dissenters and invasion of Tibet.

No, it's always the Israelis. The left's favourite bogeyman.

Here's an excerpt from a BBC article from last month entitled Spain dismisses Rwanda war crimes case against 40 officials.

Spain has been a prominent advocate of the principle of universal jurisdiction, which argues some crimes are so serious they transcend national sovereignty.

Courts in Spain have brought cases against the US over torture allegations at Guantanamo Bay, against China for alleged human rights violations in Tibet, and forced the arrest of former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in London.

But after a number of diplomatic rows Spain's governing People's Party reformed the laws.

It looks a if their legal system is (or was) quite happy to issue arrest warrants for miscellaneous foreigners if anyone makes a suitable complaint.

That's very probably the one I was thinking of from a few months back, though not the only one.

Is it slightly telling that apologists for state terror should pop up and say the world picks on them?
