winkie
Could be they may require more consumers, workers and carers....they might then be able to sell more of what they make to themselves, increase the gross domestic product....old people don't buy much, use much, eat much or earn much. but will need lots of looking after. interestrateripoff
Yeah.. The damn Chinese and their long history of invading other countries and plundering their resources.. oh wait. Are you suggesting they couldn't start? England didn't have a history of invading other countries until it started. In fact the opposite was true the British Isles where repeatedly invaded by other nations.
nome
Looks like they're just following the UK's example of disguising poor (or in our case non-existent) economic growth and GDP by increasing the population. Only difference is the UK do it through immigration where as China will do it through unfettered breeding.
Maynardgravy
Oh they dont need to invade anyone. Exactly. Aren't there already huge 'land grabs' in Africa - or maybe not? https://www.devex.com/news/how-much-agricultural-land-is-china-actually-grabbing-in-africa-83447 One problem with capitalism is it doesn't allow debate on population control. Dorkins
Most Chinese are urban now and it's very expensive for urban Chinese to support more than 1 child. The other Chinese/East Asian countries (Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan) have the lowest birth rates in the world without a single child policy.
