Count The Moles On Your Right Arm

Recommended Posts

I kid you not, but the BBC are spending time with this new research.

Some foreign "skin specialist" actually said that the more moles you have on your right arm, increased the risk of you having more moles on the rest of your body.

and the more moles you have, the more likely you are to get skin cancer.

amazing.

Do you assess the left arm in countries where they drive on the wrong side?

Gingers dont generally have moles. But generally havea higher risk of skin cancer.

It reminds me of the old schoolboy trick of saying 'Did you know if your hand is bigger than your face, you will get cancer?' The new bug of the lower-fifth then puts his hand across his face, and the other boy gives it a good push.

It sounds a little unscientific to me. Obviously moles can go cancerous, but most don't. I think most people have a few moles. Wouldn't start worrying too much.

Dunno, sounds quite valuable to me. An easy test to see how susceptible to cancer you are from moles that anyone can do. The hard work is in establishing the statistics.

I think the thing likely to screw it up is age.

I have quite a few moles, not an outrageous amount, but compatible with this number. I keep out of the sun because when I go in it my skin burns bright red. I think the best thing for some people is to keep out of the sun full stop.

of course, the more moles you have in a given location, means you are more likely to have more moles all over...really, what does that tell us?...people generally know about their problem moles...no matter how many there are.

The sun is good for you. Just dont stay in long enough to burn. Your body is pretty good at informing us of this information

It helps establish a baseline. I knew I had more moles than other people, I didn't know that I had a high enough number to consider it a major risk, but I guessed it was and in general keep out of the sun, especially when abroad as a result.

If this causes a general increase in awareness and people now have a baseline to establish whether or not they are more susceptible, that can only be a good thing IMO, as skin cancer rates are on the rise, and continue to rise.

Well there are probably a few, but that's not the main issue to me anyway.

Everyone has them, its more a question of how many poses the extra risk and what number is considered abnormal. I always suspected I had a larger amount than normal and have kept out of the sun. This confirms it for me that my number is in the high range, and I will increase my efforts to keep out of strong sun as a result.
