Another of my character flaws is finding people hurting themselves through their own stupidity hilarious, especially when they are writhing in agony on the floor and squealing like a girl. (As long as there are no visible signs of injury, squashed or bent bits, blood etc, then I have to hide behind the sofa)

I apologise for my shallowness. I hope I never suffer a similar injury.. Anyway, saw this the other day on "Science of Stupid" (also on youtube)

Amazing stupidity exists! Wonder at it, but don't try it at home! It is the word of Pin! I have spoken!

I can't watch those videos. The first jump was enough. Tuurned off then. Hard to believe that people have been doing this for thousands of years. At least they have a much bigger audience now.

I feel the same..I read somewhere that psychologists cannot figure out why some people keep making similar dumb mistakes throughout their lives.. and some die I guess.. yet others continuously learn from them and change behaviour.

Maybe it proves Darwinism is at work.

Even the best people do stupid things sometimes. Caught a colleague looking up an optic fibre. He could see a red light. I told him not to look up it because it is a laser. Use your cellphone camera instead. Actually, the fact he could see a red light was the clue someboby had bought an 850nm, rather than a 1300nm laser. Problem solved. Actually the laser was very low power, and there was no danger in it, but you still shouldn't do it anyway. I've caught people being even stupider with a welding laser that can cut through 10mm of steel.

Charles Causley was very jolly about a well-deserved Darwin award:

I saw a jolly hunter

with a jolly gun

Walking in the country

In the jolly sun

In the jolly meadow

sat a jolly hare

saw the jolly hunter

took jolly care

Hunter jolly eager

sight of jolly prey

forgot gun pointing

wrong jolly way(!)

Jolly hunter jolly head

over heels gone

jolly old safety catch

not jolly on!

Bang! went the jolly gun

Hunter jolly dead

Jolly hare got clean away

Jolly good I said
