Been Mental And Used Work Phone To Do Something I Shouldn’T Of – Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

When drunk last night I sent a couple of texts like a tit to a lady of the night to book her, on my work phone. These were SMS texts. Does anyone with Company IT or phone knowledge be able to let me know how traceable it is by IT and anything I can do to get rid of the sms trail!!!!

Not sure if serious, but anyone from a compliance point of view would be looking for trends/patterns and costs - not individual texts to a particular phone number.

my two cents anyway.

Wouldnt worry. Google the number and see what comes up. If nothing related to thist type of 'business' - then definately dont worry.

I look after our work phones and, for us anyway, there is zero visibility of the content of sms. The only red flag would be the charge on the bill if it's a premium rate number.

Obviously delete them off your phone.

Ok this will make you realise it's nowt to get worried about. Sure I have told this before on here.

Long story short - I was down South with the TA when young and bloke I was with ended up nabbing a burds mobile phone. I was reeking and stupidly used it to call my pal and also a few porn lines (Yes it as that long ago).

They managed to track me down as someone who had used it - and I eventually got officially 'arrested' as they came to my front door as they had to take me to England for an interview.

I had to then sit there in an English Police station in Berwick - whilst a military police burd ran through the calls I made and where they were to. When she got to the 0898 number that was for 'big boobed sluts' or something similar - I had to try not to piss myself laughing as the military police bloke stood behind her doing the same.

Anyway - I eventually got let off with it - so I doubt your prediciment is going to lead to anything as worrying as that.

Delete and forget about it. :D

Obviously delete them off your phone.

And depending on the phone, they might appear in more than one place in the 'history' e.g. you might delete the SMS, but the phone number get helpfully prefilled next time you start typing in a number...

Googling 'delete history from phone X' can help here.

And I would suggest, if you haven't already seen this 'person', that you be very nice to her - polite, give a tip, etc... You do NOT want her phoning back to shout at you :)

Don't worry about it. If you used the corporate credit card, bad boy, disciplinary and possible sacking. Used the corporate phone - naughty boy (especially if they pay the bill), but chances of detection and action are small in my view.

But - if a pattern emerges it gets seen worse and worse. So, no more drunk texting.

I really doubt anyone has the time to go through all the SMS sent on a works phone even if they requested them all. Unless it was premium rate I doubt anything will come of it unless the individual at the other end complains. Realistically I can see this being your only worry, so if you meet them I doubt you'll be able to claim it was a drunk mate texting. If you need to be contacted by work 24/7 you could argue you were too drunk to realise which phone you where using and it only became apparent in the morning.

However I doubt anything will come of it.

Thanks Interstate and Wherebee - not to be repeated after this one! We are so short staffed in that department I doubt they have the time to, let alone hopefully the ability to retrieve the SMS without my phone. Infamy, infamy, there paranoia has it in infamy.

Thanks for talking me down.......although I do slightly blame ( :) ) this site for introducing me to the method of contacting these types - with a certain website that was mentioned a lot for a while in the off topic - at the time a potential economic bell weather.

Mate of mine used work email to book an escort on his business trip to Frankfurt. Unfortunately the email server had a barny and the reply confirming "Helga" for 2 hour at the Frankfurt Ibis was sent to everyone in the company (actually I suspect the administrator saw the mail and diverted it). Very embarrassing but even more so as my mate tried to deny it and buried himself into an even deeper hole.

Start a thread on Mumsnet entitled "Booked a hooker for my ex-boyfriend using his work phone to drop him in the shit".

Troll that for a bit, then point your boss to it if anything crops up. Tell them that your ex felt the need to confess to you after seeing the responses on her MN thread.

Job done.
