My Personal Shoe Shine Moment.

Recommended Posts

on a local bus today.

3 drivers got on.

what are they taking about, houses.

1 was going to buy land and build, oh how the other two laughed.

1 was going to buy at auction. you can get a bargain at auction it seems.

1 is buying a new building the government helps and it gives him peace of mind.

all 3 of them were foreign.

I wanted to scream at them, ARE YOU ####### STUPID

instead I just smiled and thought, not only are you stupid, your rude too.

Bus driving is steady, reasonably well paid in working class terms, but otherwise sh#t job.

I know a bloke who left his steady bus driving job to go in at the bottom in a small it services firm, more interesting work, less money. Was happier for it.

That's the starting salary. Arriva claims that you can eventually earn £25,000, but I suspect that would be after training and doing all the cruddy shifts and driving every single hour you're allowed to.

Is this a gross or net salary I wonder?

When I started driving in London I was earning about 60% more than my previous junior civil service job. In my last year of driving I made 32 grand before tax I think. New starters now are on a lower hourly rate than I was on in 2008, and their payments for working unsociable hours are lower.
