Fings To Do... This Weekend

Recommended Posts

There are two days this weekend - why not do both.

Also, you won't get much horse time for free - so maybe get your 15 mins of horsey, then go heritage.

Does the heritage stuff involve men and women dressing up as either:

Vikings

I thought you were from Swansea - presumably there are Vikings all over the place with you.

One of the theories behind the names 'Swansea' and 'Mumbles' is that they were viking in origin. Swain's Eye and Mwmbles... but then they also think that they could be Roman.... I tend to lean towards Andorrian.

Ah I see. So not so many Vikings. Many Romans? I suppose lots of Polish, so not sure it says anything any more...

Yep, we have a Roman bridge - it is tiny, about 6 foot long and 4 foot wide, but clearly the Romans felt it wwas important. Used to collect lots of salt on Gower.

Poles? Yes, hundreds of Free Polish soldiers settled in Swansea after WW2. Seems as if they were a different race to the modern day Polish arrivals.

I'm helping stage my local village show this weekend. Next Friday is my 5th wedding anniversary and the wife and I are going to go to the Yorkshire Air Museum (look away now workingpoor), possibly followed by fish and chips in Whitby.

Whitby fish and chips actually follow you around? Creepy.

Wear a hard hat. These rocket powered grand pianos can come from anywhere.

I see Yorkshire shows and turnip land shows have a lot in common.

Well, I am a "virtual Yorkshireman". :(
