Beauty stylist Melissa Murphy has been posting photos of how porn stars look before and after she's finished with their hair and make-up.

The make-up artist, who is based in Los Angeles, has been posting the images on her Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Amazing how make up can change the face.

I don't know what it is but these days I just look at these faces and think this is just skin stretched over boney skulls.

I don't know if it's what you're getting at but I find that women, in general, have never been uglier.

Am I the only one thinking most of them look just as nice natural as they do dolled up?

Well the first one looks ten years older and ten years meaner. I thought mascara was meant to make your eyes bigger not smaller.

Kissa looks good in both, so probably the beauty.

And Penny and Ashleigh...why the long face? and the make up doesn't help.

Some are natural beauties, others are clearly good canvases for make up.

Personally, I am not fond of this particular makeup aesthetic (and sadly, it seems to be one beloved of many young ladies nowadays). But then who am I to judge? I am probably not their target audience.

I'm quite a fan of the natural beauty, for whom makeup is not required!

I agree. It seems the aim of the make up is not to make them look better, per se, but to make them look like somebody wearing a lot of expertly applied make up.

Is it just me, or do they all have appalling skin?

I thought what got pasted on their faces in the course of their work was meant to be good for their skin.

Actually, most women these days have absolutely terrible skin - booze? cigs? diet?

Booze and junkfood. I don't even think it's fags if they do smoke; fags don't do the damage as quickly as junkfood does.

Went out with a girl a couple of years ago who was in her mid 20's, should have been in her prime, but she was a bit overweight and ate garbage. She looked decent with makeup on but when she took it all off, Jesus Christ, the state of her skin was apalling. At 25. She honestly looked like a totally different person. And not in a good way.

The irony was that she spent ages every morning 'putting her face on' as she called it, but didn't want to clean up her diet or lose weight.

I also think it's safe to assume that makeup cannot be good for a person's skin. So women are actually damaging their skin by trying to make it look good.

I think the main issue with booze is the dehydration that occurs.

Having been on a holiday to hotter climes I made a special effort to stay hydrated, and I've continued it on since I got back. Lots of sparkling water, minimal booze or coffee. The difference in my skin is staggering - I look like I belong in an Olay for men ad.
