I'm impressed that you have the county I reside in under three different names. Mention the word Humberside in these parts and they my might just forge a streetlight to hang you from.

I wonder if Americans actually use these names in day to day speech.

I rarely if ever hear football fans refer to their clubs by their official nicknames; which usually give the impression that they were thought up in the 1930s by the local vicar.

The Grecians (Exeter) and the Spireites (Chesterfield) are typical.

People usually use a shortened version of the team name or refer to the team colours.

A lot of famous football teams were started up by vicars, to keep the local lads busy, Mr 4 Warning Points.
