libspero
Apologies for the DM link: Fragments of the world's oldest Koran, found in Birmingham last month, may predate the Prophet Muhammad and could even rewrite the early history of Islam, according to scholars. The pages, thought to be between 1,448 and 1,371 years old, were discovered bound within the pages of another Koran from the late seventh century at the library of the University of Birmingham. thombleached
Is this Birmingham library's answer to their funding crisis? Run some tea over an old Koran and bobs your uncle. Probably got someone producing Peckham spring on site an all.
porca misèria
It's a miracle! The Holy Book pre-dates the Prophet (peace be upon him). Or perhaps it's just like all the other religious texts: a hotch-potch whose origins are lost in the mists of time, garbled and spun by later generations. So how did Mohammed get to Birmingham? Did he try following Joseph of Arimathea to Glastonbury and catch the wrong train?

LiveinHope
Burn the bloody thing, just like ISIS's behaviour in Palmyra... Wouldn't sink so low, but I agree with your sentiment 100%, and I loathe all religions I've met so far, and this one seems particularly set in the dark ages. stormymonday_2011
Islam is the HPC obsession. Nonsense. At a mere 231 pages it is just a mild diversion to the real topics such as Old Scrapper Birds which has clocked up nearly twice as much space on the OTF. The Masked Tulip
And? So the range of dates for that Koran basically straddle the Prophet's lifespan? Am I reading this right? Your prophet?

MrPin
How could the Koran be older than Mohammed, as he is supposed to have written it? Maybe he didn't?
SarahBell
How could the Koran be older than Mohammed, as he is supposed to have written it? Maybe he didn't? Doesn't the koran say it's not allowed to alter the koran.. so if there are any differences, someone's in trouble!

Guest TheBlueCat
So how did Mohammed get to Birmingham? Came in on the underside of a truck then got a job in a dodgy halal chicken joint maybe?
Bossybabe
It was the winky wot done it. Apparently he made a two month journey to Jerusalem one night and then to the gates of Heaven, so I think the possibility he visited Birmingham cannot be ruled out. But by all accounts he never actually setted foot in Jerusalem and gave a description of it from an aerial point of view. Must've seen that when flying over on his way to Brum.I wonder if it was an accurate description. Edit: bloody Rastafarian predictive text. Hasn't been the same since the latest iOS update.
