A Degree Is Worthless...

Recommended Posts

I've seen lots of ads recently for bursarys for PGCE courses.

So being inquisitive I had a look at the entry requirements:

http://www2.mmu.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/taught/2015/12431/

All PGCE applicants will need to pass pre-entry Professional Skills Tests in Numeracy and Literacy. For further advice please see...

Even the ones with degrees.

My wife is just finishing this very PGCE/Schools Direct with the MMU.

She has a Degree and Masters and 10 years industrial experience and had to do the numeracy an literacy tests.

Was pretty easy I think, though (even for her :P ).

I guess it does prove your point that degrees are no longer considered a reflection of ones basic aptitude.

I think it's probably more of a reflection on the fact that it is easier to make everyone sit everything rather than faff around trying to figure out who should do what.

For example, the maths degree has to sit the english test.

And what degrees count as automatic maths or english pass ? Does computer science or elec eng class as a maths pass ? What about media studies as an english pass ?

I know a degree costalot....so not only can it be worthless it also can be a liability as well as an asset.......

Not all good employers require degrees.....they interview well, then work at bringing out the best potential in their employees...win,win.

Just because you have a maths degree doesn't mean you can do basic arithmetic.

Oh I can't add up, but I like patterns and music.

Unfortunately I look like an accountant.

Yes that's my sort of thinking. I am not an accountant, or a truck driver.

Although everyone seems to be a truck driver here.

Scania or Peterbilt for you?

I reckon a first class engineer with common sense, could run an economy far better than most economists that have never actually built anything except spread sheets and thesis within academia.

The problem with economists is that they think they are scientists whereas they are actually historians

I reckon they'd just end up like the Germans. Lost in a delusion that it's a controllable system that they understand.

Isn't that the idea behind command and control economies?

Hard to say.

Most of C+C tend to be politcal scientists i.e. made up.

Closest I can think of would be singapore.
