Flat Screen Tvs (Or Rather The Lack Of Them Usofa).

Recommended Posts

A friend from Illinois posted a picture up of her and her brood in their sitting room via social media and they had a whopping great big old style CRT television sat in the corner (they are not short of cash (couple of medical doctors)). After some facebook stalking of her extended family it seems grandma has a CRT too. I couldn't see what tv her sister had. Another acquaintance across the pond also has an old style television taking pride of place in their living room.

It seems we are on another level of consumerism compared to our American friends with their old fridges, battered pick-up trucks and sedans, and of course televisions.

I don't know anybody in the UK who still has a CRT (apart from one who uses it solely for gaming online).

Is this unusual? What are your experiences as there are a fair few on here who travel/reside in America?

Thanks.

I know someone with a CRT. They are young and their combined income is about £70k with no kids. They are keeping it until it doesn't start.

Cramped living space might be a factor. Maybe the yanks can spare a few square feet behind the goggle box more than we can.

+1

For a small outlay you get a load of living space back for free, it's compelling economics in the uk

My mum had to buy New TV. Could not work tv with set-top Box and TV remote.

Thank God she did. Got a bit fed up of lost TV phone calls.

All I need now is a DVD player with standard menu system in

Had a sony trinitron CRT for years very good TV,it was £70.00 in 1999 as an ex rental from Radio rentals type shop!! it then it went pop 2yrs ago so I bought a 40 flat screen but this was also a factory refurb bought on the bay for half the retail price,I must admit when i fitted it in the chimney breast i felt like a "lemming sheeple" but with a 4 yr old best place for it, the screens are plastic and brake if you fart in the wrong direction!!!

I still have a CRT in the bedroom and to be honest if it weren't for lack of space wouldn't have a flat screen downstairs.

I wonder if you have a CRT in the lounge and a burglar gets in, he just leaves straight away.

I have an eff off huge Sony Trinitron widescreen CRT taking up a lot of space in my narrow living room. Was given to me by my parents, who traded up to a trendy flatscreen deeley.

The CRT is as reliable as a Volvo Estate...and seems to weigh almost as much as one.

People go for mental size flat screen tellies too.

Who knows, perhaps as he'll be paralyzed by fits of laughter he might just get caught instead.

I've still kept my big CRT TV that I won in an online competition. I've kept it because I don't watch much TV and when I do I tend to watch TV on my HD portable in the kitchen. Btw, my CRT weighs 80kg! :D
