Plan To Build 400 Houses Rejected

Recommended Posts

Catesby Estates had made the application to Amber Valley Borough Council, which has the fields on the edge of Allestree on the outskirts of Derby in its remit.

To the south west of Derby some 400 of about 1000 houses are being built.

There is a place down south - the Goring Gap - near Worthing that has been landbanked by one of the big building firms for years and years. I had mates that lived nearby and it was a nice place for a walk and a cuppa at the cafe on the beach nearby. Amazing views up to the south downs and from the hill near there it was about the only uninterrupted view to the sea. Locals always ready to fight for it - and do you know what? Despite wanting a HPC, I also think that places like that should be kept as breathing spaces between villages. When I was back in the UK recently I drove past it on the way to Brighton and wondered what had happened to it.

stop fecking pumping the country full with immigration, act against landbanking by big business (maybe local communities would buy under a mutual scheme to make a public park if big bankers were forced to sell) and allow small holders to build occasional properties themselves. That's what I'd like to see.

What is needed are new villages and towns, but our planning system does not allow this.

I was about to snarl at that, but then thought yes, that might well work. I'd like them to be relatively unplanned though (just define an area and supply the serivces) so they don't end up looking like any old bland housing estate that just happens to be plonked in the middle of a field instead of next to another estate. Let people build their own houses in them instead of it all being identikit boxes from one developer.

Of course what we really need are fewer people and therefore no actual need to build more (once we've cleared the backlog).
