interestrateripoff
https://medium.com/insurge-intelligence/uk-government-backed-scientific-model-flags-risk-of-civilisation-s-collapse-by-2040-4d121e455997 New scientific models supported by the British government’s Foreign Office show that if we don’t change course, in less than three decades industrial civilisation will essentially collapse due to catastrophic food shortages, triggered by a combination of climate change, water scarcity, energy crisis, and political instability. Before you panic, the good news is that the scientists behind the model don’t believe it’s predictive. The model does not account for the reality that people will react to escalating crises by changing behavior and policies. But even so, it’s a sobering wake-up call, which shows that business-as-usual guarantees the end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it: our current way of life is not sustainable. The new models are being developed at Anglia Ruskin University’s Global Sustainability Institute (GSI), through a project called the ‘Global Resource Observatory’ (GRO). The GRO is chiefly funded by the Dawe Charitable Trust, but its partners include the British government’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO); British bank, Lloyds of London; the Aldersgate Group, the environment coalition of leaders from business, politics and civil society; the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries; Africa Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, and the University of Wisconsin. As long as house prices aren't effected I'm sure we won't have a problem...
Guest_northshore_*
I think that means we should definitely deal with food-insecurity risk by subsidising agriculture (landowners) more. And deaming the financialised food industry too big to fail, with hypothetically systemic yet easily thinktankably-tangible monetary shock for taxpayers to wear. wherebee
Probably a good time to buy 100 of these; http://www.emergencyfoodstorage.co.uk/products/12-Months-%27Basic%27-Emergency-Food-Pack-%28Full-Meal-Range%29-.html (25 year life span). Just in time for the apocalypse. Got my 30 day family supply pack (1900 cals per day each) arrived and stored safe. Added to what's normally in the cupboards, plus the water purifying stuff we have, I reckon we can do 4 months without starting to eye the cats. Call me mad, but better safe than sorry.... Stateless
It should, but the sheeple ignored every thing else. Anyway it won't last that long. This is actually to make people believe that all is well no need to panic, keep calm.

billybong
It's spoof for some new catastrophe movies. After the Mayans and things like 2012 they've run out of ideas. They never really recovered after 1984 had been and gone. "Three decades" - so it sounds like there's a new catastrophe date in the pipeline that could be something like any year upto and including 2045. At least the UK will be alright because by then the UK will be the richest country in the world - according to Osborne. R K
All those leaky boats full of migrants attempting to escape across the Med to Southern Europe is just the beginning...... We have little comprehension (yet) just how fortunate we are not to be a subsistence/agrarian economy on the wrong part of the planet. In due course we will find out. Meerkat
All those leaky boats full of migrants attempting to escape across the Med to Southern Europe is just the beginning...... We have little comprehension (yet) just how fortunate we are not to be a subsistence/agrarian economy on the wrong part of the planet. In due course we will find out. R K, some of your stances if implemented till the very end logically would result in humankind falling back to the stone age indeed (most notably - squandering of economic resources in case you wondered thru various govy interventions). In fact, that western world is not a subsistence economy has nothing to do with fortune. Well, this such a slip that you probably would take it back. What is indeed unfortunate is that the protectionist policies of the EU/US and their meddling in none of their business around the globe have made sure that they need to handle both economic and political refugees let alone allowing these backwater countries develop their comparative advantages thru free trade. And large swathes of unsuspecting taxpayers shafted along to make sure this situation persists. Talking of which - did it occur to anyone that this scary report may hv been produced in order to instigate some more re-allocation of resources towards the "right" industries?
