Homeless Resorting To Sleeping In Caves.

Recommended Posts

The situation for the young homeless in Bristol is so bad now that some are resorting to sleeping/living in caves.

Is that how bad it has got in this country that people are having to become cavemen again to find shelter?

I wish a programme like this would be shown on BBC1 or ITV at prime time instead of BBC3, that said being on BBC 3 might actually help light a flame under the backsides of the younger generations so that they stand-up for themselves and say we aren't going to take any more of this housing shite.

There are 600 odd shysters who should be up on treason charges for what they have done to housing provision, promoting the demand for housing and manipulating the cost of it.

I am seeing a lot more homeless people than four years ago.

I thought we were supposed to have a safety net in this country. For even one person to be homeless is shameful. Our 'leaders' are anything but.

Safety net is more about slashing HB to accommodate HPI.

What they should have done is build council owned council houses (cut the private owners out), then transfer people on HB into those new homes. Bad news for private landlords, but that is how it should be done.

I am going to make a quick mention of two charities that help homelessness in Hampshire/Dorset. Don't know if they are the complete answer but better than nothing.

http://www.newforestnightstop.org.uk- people allow the use a of a spare room to accommodate young homeless people for the night, in the new forest area.

http://www.jamies.org.uk- the largest homeless charity in Southampton that recycles computers, and provides IT upskilling for at risk groups. I've bought some stuff from there.

I saw the prog when it aired on BBC3 and most of those truely homeless had absolutely no income as they had been sanctioned by DWP nor could they get jobs. There were also many "sofa surfing" so homeless but not visibly so and also many preferrred taking their chances outside as they felt unsafe in hostels. There was also a girl student who ended up sleeping in a cubby hole in her student friends' house and had been made homeless IIRC because she couldn't afford a deposit on a new place.
