'Mr Neary confirmed before the committee that he relied on the banks for analysis of risk management, believing them to be best placed to provide such analysis.'

What could possibly go wrong?

That's one nice installment into the series of the gullible belief of the masses in omnipotent, omnipresent and smart central planners.

Well, a few of those examples have got nothing to do with capitalism or laissez faire - to be sure we don't get semantics wrong; some of the things above have happened BECAUSE OF central planning/complacency. Nobody is also stating laissez fair is perfection, but given the two alternatives one is decidedly more palatable if overall well-being of a nation is concerned. In fact, the biggest problem with interventionism is its meddling with pure economic matters that state should have nthg to do with. Regarding criminal offences - that's a different topic; I guess HPC site wouldnt exist if the main topic were controls outside economics (i.e. resource re-allocation within an economy).
