Brookvale Homes Enters Administration With 51 Jobs At Risk. Well, of course. The last thing we need is low-cost housing. Er, what? Indeed, there's something odd about this story which piqued my journalistic curiosity. It's almost as if someone didn't want those affordable (mostly low rental) homes to be built. Look at the timeline below in the Local Rag. What we do know is that the Conservatives, having eradicated council housing, want to extend Right to Buy to those in housing associations. THE families desperately waiting for a home in Cheddar have been dealt another blow as the developer of the Sharpham Road build has gone bust. Brookvale Homes has confirmed it has gone into administration. The company are the developers for the 23 affordable homes off Sharpham Road which have been plagued with problems since the original application was placed. It is now down to Stonewater, the housing association in charge of the new estate, to fill in the blanks for the would-be tenants. In a letter to one of the families who have been waiting to move in, a spokeswoman for Stonewater said that as a result of Brookvale Homes going into administration, "Stonewater is unsure at present when the properties will be fully completed" and ready for occupation. "Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to liaise with the developers to ascertain a date," read the letter. Kate Salway, who is still waiting for a moving in date for her and her family, said she felt let down again. "We've been left in the lurch for so long now," she said. "We've had our hopes raised a number of times, just to be let down again and again. We've been left depressed and have bills mounting up." Just weeks ago, the families waiting for their new homes were told a design had still not been agreed for the Fiveways Bridge to provide safe pedestrian access to the estate. At time of going to press, Stonewater and Brookvale Homes had not commented. Timeline of homes June 2009 – Plans filed for 23 homes with Sedgemoor Housing Association Ltd and Progression Homes Ltd September 2009 – Plans withdrawn over highway issues January 2010 – Plans re-submitted with promise to improve the bridge and build a new footpath link; parish council wants a guarantee the bridge improvement will be done before the homes are built March 2010 – Developers agree to widen the bridge for a footpath April 2010 – District council grants permission October 2012 – Raglan Homes take on project before later becoming Stonewater March 2015 – First bridge design unveiled and rejected May 2015 – Developer goes into administration. onlyme2 Posted May 20, 2015 Share Posted May 20, 2015 March 2010 – Developers agree to widen the bridge for a footpath Why not just build a parallel foot bridge - much better idea than having a path alongside traffic anyway rather than the cost of widening a whole bridge. Is any part of the construction sector performing well? Curiously, 'Construction News' was part of the media campaigning for a Conservative win. It maintained that 84% of its readers thought Toffs were good for business, Red Ed bad. The funny part is that subsequent survey showed that the industry struggled to identify where any upturn was coming from. Not to be dismayed, though, a new 'Construction News' analysis says that NHS spending will emerge from an eight year slump. Hmmmm. Good luck with that one.
