Pensioner Places £30,000 Bet On Conservative Majority

Recommended Posts

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/general-election-2015/11571601/Pensioner-places-30000-bet-on-Conservative-majority-at-general-election.html

He placed the bet at Ladbrokes Hope Street branch in the city centre with odds at 7/1.

Bookies bosses say the odds have since been cut to 6/1.

He is understood to have asked staff about the odds and then taken a "wad" of £50 notes from his jacket pocket to place the bet.

The pensioner, who is a retired accountant, is believed to have paid the entire wager in cash.

One cashier said: "He looked like he knew what he was doing.

"He seemed very calm considering the money at stake."

It is the biggest election majority bet to date, according to Ladbrokes

Probably withdrew the stake from his pension (or MEW'd) knowing that he'd be able to fall back on the state if he lost. Win / win.

There must have been people who have lost tons - we don't get to know about them. Only bet with money that you can afford to lose.

I took a screen shot of the odds on the 7th from paddy power. Now what would you have guessed, if I gave you £10K to speculate with? I certainly wouldn't have bet on a conservative majority. I am not well informed, or on the inside....

Grant Shapps on R5 just now. Bet Tories to get a majority some months back. £50 win bet.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy....
