Foreign Currency Cash Passport

Has anyone ever used one of these? I'm trying to work out under what circumstances it could be useful. It seems to me that credit cards and cash are all you need overseas and the only situations I can think of where this might be better than cash are a lost or stolen wallet (assuming the thief doesn't escort you to the ATM) because a card can be stopped whereas cash is gone forever.

Does anyone have any other thoughts?

Not a recommendation for any particular one but if you Google some combination of 'prepaid card' and 'FX / foreign currency' there should be a lot of different options.

You might want to look at this one too, the account costs either £4.95 a month or £1 per transaction and you can switch it between those plans every 60 days. Free euro ATM withdrawls and transfer back to your bank or between your £ card and the euro card easily. Top up in post office or faster payment.

I find the prepaid debit cards handy, especially for online gambling. You don't want those transactions showing on bank statements if you are ever going for a loan or mortgage!

Looks like a successor to travellers cheques.

I recollect being told to use those when I first started travelling anywhere independently. They seemed pretty pointless to me when a creditcard did the job more simply and much cheaper, but I guess they were a relic from a pre-creditcard era when foreign travel was pretty rare.

What's the issue?

Did you not get the PM? ccc is trapped overseas and has lost his money; we each need to transfer $200 by Western Union to rescue him. His grammar's gone off a bit though.

Thank you muchly :)

Issue with limits I think in las Vegas. Just been a hassle trying to get decent amounts of cash out. Spoke to a few barmen and apparently ID/pin theft is rife here so its probably just really low daily limits for international cards.

Saving me money I suppose - but rather annoying.
