Mrs Bear

New Baby, New Granny!

Recommended Posts

Daughter had first baby - a girl - last Thursday - St. George's Day. We are all very happy! I had been on tenterhooks all through since daughter is late 30s and had had a couple of misses. Parents are both besotted! Lucky little baby, so much wanted and loved.

Against all advice re exhausting upheaval, they are planning on moving house soon - their own was offered on v quickly at very nearly asking, and their offer has been accepted on the one they want. Praying now that all goes through with no glitches, since although it is 'in need of modernisation' the house has a lovely warm feel and is in the area they wanted.

Can we have a names poll like we did for DTMarks cats ?

After all baby names are much less important.

Goldilocks.

(and let her find Mrs Bear just right).

Congrats. Will you be starting grandmasnet now?

No, but I might finally have to give in and join Facebook, so I can see all the photos! Alas and alack, I have shunned it so long...

BTW she probably will be a Goldilocks if she takes after her mother, who's a natural blonde, but she's a little Helena.

Thank you all for kind words!

Congratulations!

Now you are a gran you can smell funny and let your teeth fall out!

You can also go shopping in pyjamas and a crash helmet, and write a cheque for a single can of beans.

Then do what my best friend has done. She's joined FB as her pornstar name: the name of your first pet followed by the name of the first street you lived in. As mine was Tiddles Kilnside, I joined under my real name. ?

My first pet was called Spot. Not good as a pornstar name.

Congratulations to the Bears.

Oh is there a law saying you have to be a granny before you can do that?

Whoops.

Congrats to all involved in the new baby's life!

Mine would be Timmy Dingwall, so maybe not. Timmy was a tortoise. He cost four and six and the pet-shopkeeper put him in a brown paper bag.

I can still recall the time that my younger brother's son (yes the bloodline does carry on ;)) was introduced to me when he had reached the age when he could comprehend language.

"This is Uncle Mark."

I could have died at that moment. I think I might actually have looked down at the ground wishing a hole would open and swallow me.

Congrats! It's important to outbreed the stupid people - keep the family growing!

Don't understand - am I missing something here? (Wouldn't be the first time). Was it just because 'uncle' made you feel ancient?

Ages ago now, but when my elder sister was about to be a granny I said, 'God, that makes you sound old!'

At which she retorted, 'Well, you're going to be a great-aunt and that sounds even older!'

Great-aunt does make me think of Wooster-type Aunt Dahlias, with voices like mastodons bellowing to each other across the primeval swamp, as he so memorably put it. Or else wizened up old things with whiskery chins and smelling of lavender water mixed with other things you'd rather not know about.
