Renting All Your Life And Hitting Retirement

Recommended Posts

So it seems like many people will end up doing this in the future due to the sorry state of housing. However there must always be a number of people that rent privately all their lives and then hit retirement and have no income to keep going.

What happens then? Can they get social housing easily enough? God knows what the future will be like though without a correction. I foresee OAPs living like students 5 to a terraced.

What's the option for many families who will never be able to buy? Is this not a welfare timebomb?

There will be a correction, too many people need to sell their house in the future, too many people won`t be able to pay bubble prices, something has to give. I`m expecting things to start giving in the next three to four weeks actually, when the little Nedette on too much Iron Bru starts dictating terms to whichever party scrapes past the line

I doubt sheltered/age restriced housing via a council or housing association will be easier to obtain in 20+ years time. :(

I'm in social housing. I was on the waiting list for 12 years. No real problem, I sort of got bullied into getting on the list by a mate. (Bless him.) Did it to shut him up. After 6 years, I got a letter from the council asking if I still wanted to be on the list. iow, I got to the top of the list to be on the real waiting list. Rough place, managed to get moved to another area 3 years later, happy as a sandboy where I am now.

I didn't do anything except apply then wait. Couple of years in a bad place, then bliss. Renters have 30 or 40 years to do this.

If there was me and 4 other pensioners in a terrace, we'd have enough income to have an escort visit every week. If crack whore rather than escort, she'd be servicing us 3 or 4 days a week. Don't be feeling sorry for pensioners, we've hit paydirt.
