Things You Did As A Kid You Would Never Do Now!

Recommended Posts

I used to explore abandoned Victorian hearthstone mines in Surrey.

So dangerous I come out in a cold sweat when I think about it now.

At 17 I had no grasp of my mortality.

Dangling off these, nicking seagull's eggs.

Safety first - we wore our skateboard helmets and double checked the knots in the rope we made from old crab pot ropes.

Attended the Isle of Wight Festival

Cycled 50 miles a day

Wished I looked my age!!! :o

yup!!

gone are the days where i could easily be cycling for 7 or 8 hours and scrambling up scafell or helvellyn on my todd at 12 or 13.

(shame really, the scenery once you get up there is quite breathtaking)

Drive at truly ridiculous speeds.

By that I mean doing 85mph along back roads barely slowing for the corners.

And back then I had an MG Metro. I've had much faster and more capable cars since.

I can now empathise with why my passengers were holding onto the grab-handles above the doors and leaning from side-to-side.

Probably fearing for their own mortality as I do now.

I don't know anything about those particular mines but exploring mines isn't fundamentally dangerous if you know what you're doing and which bits are horribly dangerous and worth avoiding. I've not been in any for two or three years though. Some I wouldn't go anywhere near (I've no intention whatsoever of going down an abandoned coal mine).

I always expect gay men to drive like my grandad. ;) I am wrong.

Treat women as I would wish to be treated.

I still do!

I voted once when I turned 18.

Never again! Only took a few years of adulthood to learn what a scam and waste of time that is.
