Bristol Letting Agent Fuelling Rent Rises

Recommended Posts

Much as I detest estate agents, this one is just reacting to the current market climate. If they stopped trying to make as much profit as possible for their customers they'd soon find themselves losing business to their competitors.

As ever, the people at fault are the successive governments who have been (and are) so terrified of the consequences of a natural correction, that they will do literally anything in their power to prevent it happening on their watch.

It makes me wonder if a liblabconkip coalition might be the best outcome of the election, in that they might collectively decide to share the fallout in the early years of the term, then take an every man for himself approach as the next GE looms. But to be honest, I doubt it. I think this one is going all the way to the inevitable ultimate collapse of economy, currency and society.

Lets look at this as a good thing. LL's will maximise their profits, pushing the market rents to the absolute bearable limit. Average Joe's will see this as easy money (they already do) and leveraged themselves up to the eyeballs to get in on the game (lots already have, think second steppers not selling their first home)! At some point it will break, maybe with the help of a landlord tax (which won't raise rents, as they will already be at their maximum potential)!

I doubt the government would do much to bail out bankrupt LL's (lower IR's, opps, could be hard to lower them much more), may use the opportunity to increase the council housing stock!

Unlimited greed (and leverage) will eventually pop the bubble!
