46 Mps Claim Rent Or Hotels To Live In London - Despite Owning Taxpayer Funded Homes In Capital

Recommended Posts

The situation has come about after a new system brought in after the 2009 expenses scandal, banned MPs from claiming mortgage interest. This meant the MPs have had to let out their old second homes – often for thousands of pounds – and claim for hotel rooms or renting another property.

Channel Four News found that 46 MPs - including 25 Conservatives, 14 Labour, and four from the Liberal Democrats – were letting out their old second homes which had been part-funded through the old expenses system.

MPs are permitted to claim more than £20,000 a year in London rent, and £150 a night for hotels.

Well at least they aren't being directly funded to purchase London property now - apparently.

The actual expenses still seem to be far too large and they should have returned the amounts used to fund property purchases in the past but seeing as they nearly all seem to be continually on the graft that's probably going to be difficult to achieve.

The problem would be simply solved with a block of rabbit hutch style self catering flats. MPs would simply stay in those if they needed to stay in London. It would have some additional benefits too. We'd know where they were in case of revolution and MPs would have a greater appreciation of how many of their constituents live.

Even a free self catering flat would be higher class living than what these parasites have forced on the rest of us.

MPs earn 74k and have guaranteed five year job security. If they can't buy themselves a house without additional help them the country is ******ed.

No wonder they engineer perpetual house price inflation, considering most of them get a free one just for showing up.

Please tell me something will CHANGE.

Student basic accommodation blocks for MP's, please. In by 10pm, and security guards to bar rent boys/dominatrixes and drug dealers at the main entrance.

Still happens just slightly more convoluted, I buy, you rent from me; you buy, I rent from you. Both claim the rent on expenses.

The block of rabbit hutch style self catering flats solution seems a good one then. With the taxpayer owning the flats and MPs paying rent out of their own pocket - no accommodation expenses. Like most other people have to put up with in their jobs.

Apart from that there are far too many MPs. Cameron "promised" to reduce the numbers before the last general election - yet another promise reneged on.
