"Unconventional" monetary policy should be temporary in nature and used to deal with specific economic issues, the head of the International Monetary Fund said in India on Tuesday.

Commenting on the impact of policies like quantitative easing and ultra low interest rates, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said such moves were not "supposed to last forever".

"They are of the temporary nature, and they were clearly intended by all those who articulated their vision about unconventional monetary policies to deal with specific issues and particular circumstances," she said.

Is this temporary as with income tax???

The problem is that the "specific economic issues" seem to be lasting longer than the "temporary moves" - aka apparently permanent.

At least everyone knows that whatever they do is for the greater good - of bankers.

:lol::lol::lol::lol: Now that's funny, and only years too late to be remotely relevant.

Translation- The Fed has scared the shite out of itself and now wants to raise rates in the desperate hope that they can unopen Pandora's box.

For once I fully agree with you. Revolutions have happened due to this kind of bad oversight.

If the IMF hadnt led the developed world up the austerity garden path it would have been more temporary than it has been.

It is austerity what has caused lower rates for longer.
