"I'll keep that, I'm sure I shall find a use for it" The last time I got the box out to see if I had one of those plastic tie clip things, hundreds of tiny miscellaneous objects tumbled to the floor. and I didn't have the tie clip anyway. But I did spend the next week or so picking up screws and nails from the carpet. I also have a box of cables and adapters. "Ah I'll have one of those in that box". I open the box and stare at this collection of wires that vaguely resembles the Klingon dish "Gagh" which have all become knitted together. I'd suggest not as I seem to be alone in this. All the really rich people are hoarding their worn bootlaces and their Motorola chargers rather than merrily throwing them away without a care for whether or not they might come in useful in a few decades. winkie Posted March 17, 2015 Share Posted March 17, 2015 I don't like throwing out a good piece of wood away or good nails and screws...jam jars are also kept for making marmalade and jams, large sturdy plastic containers such as yoghurt pots/ice cream containers for storing and freezing soups and stews or anything useful such as sandwiches....cardboard egg boxes are good for sowing seeds in, so are toilets rolls. What was originally a small job of adjusting the back brake, entailed the existing rack's removal. There is now a bolt stuck in the frame which seems imperious to any hack saw. I think it may be titanium. The end result is that I have now no means of attaching the normal rack and am considering one of those that bolt onto the seat post. I opened one cupboard and didn't know whether to laugh or curse her. All lined up like some iron age easter island homage were 9 broken steam irons. "Why? Just why?" I exclaimed in anguish while looking to the heavens. I couldn't resist cutting off the electrical cords and putting them in a draw before I threw the irons away. Oh, and I found a drawer full of fuses and light bulbs too. Together we'd clean up My place of work throws away any piece of equipment that fails to turn on or fails its PAT I have several expensive pieces of kit in my lab that I plundered from the WEEE store that just needed a new fuse (sometimes internal), or just a new plug However, I also have a bag of several hundred fuses reclaimed from plugs in the WEEE store. There is something about wasting a fuse. I guess it is good for me that the plugs are molded to the cables, otherwise I'd have to save those too.. You know perfectly well that the missing rose will not turn up until you throw the watering can away. Buy a new one AND throw the old one away?! That is extravagant, even when battling the fates of missing stuff. Anyhow it's still got to take the obligatory next step yet (into the shed). Reckon could hypothetically turn it into a herb planter, or use it for weedkiller, or some other slightly ocd about fixing or re-using usage...
