Britain Needs Decent Homes For Everyone. The Tories Won't Offer That - Diane Abbott

Recommended Posts

What did they do when they had 13 years odd in power?

They had ample chance to do positive things. It's simply too late now.

Yes, but the Tories are making it even worse. I think Labour might be the best of the worst, especially for London.

In the article , says she will "push for these reforms". Why "push" ?

Stand on a ticket to guarantee their implementation if elected. Convince her Labour pals that there's 50% or more of the electorate who don't own their home , but rent or stay with others, who would vote for them in a split second if they could trust that these reforms would be implemented in their first parliament. It seems such a simple vote winner, you have to question why a party that says it's for social justice and the working man continues to deny these basic reforms? Could it be they are massive property VI's ?

That's quite a leap of illogic. Who was in power in the years of rampant HPI and (unlike the tories in the '80s) didn't even belatedly take action to deflate the bubble but did quite the opposite in 2004/5 leading to unprecedented troubles in 2007-9?

Good to see this issue finally raising its head. Tragic that prices had to get so out of hand in London before politicians realised there was a problem. This conversation between younger voters and politicians is long, long, long overdue.

Not a fan of all her politics but she'll get my vote for London Mayor. We need radical policies to address the housing crisis in London. Not pathetic, wishy washy ones.

Awful women will say anything to keep herself in the manner to which she has become. Do you not remember her banging on about

state education then we found out her own are privately educated. Don't fall for her lies.

Did you know that she has said so many racist things in her life?

Almost all politicians have said or done dodgy things. I will vote for anyone who has radical policies on rent controls/is on the side of generation rent. If another candidate offers better I will vote for them. I am not voting for Diane, I am voting for her policies. At the moment I don't see Tessa Jowell saying anything radical, just same old same old. I don't want to vote for Boris mk2 I want to vote for someone who has policies that stand out.

Cant you vote green? Why an earth would you vote tory or labour?!

I'm in no way left wing, but given London is already an urban dystopia. (cattle cart, sorry, 'public' transport, pod sized homes) The greens arent really much of a threat to the quality of life. Wouldnt want them in power anywhere else, but at least they might actually fairly tax the property millionaires.

Thats about the least bad thing about her.

Watch what they do, not what they say.

I'd vote Bernard Manning for PM if he led a life of honesty and rationality, even if he used the N-word in every speech.

I will vote Green in the GE but when it comes to the Mayoral Election I may vote for her or whoever has the most radical policies on renting/housing. I don't want another Boris style Mayor who just takes bungs from his rich banker friends for more £1 million riverside apartments etc.

Does LR data exist to show what happened to London house prices under Livingstone and then Johnson? I can only find data going back to 2006.

IIRC the Land Reg methodology changed significantly in 06, so you wouldn't be comparing like with like anyway

She's the Champagne Socialist that sent her kid to a private school.

Enuff said.

While denying others that chance.

I still remember that chat with Brillo and Portaloo.

Diane Abbot really annoyed me on any questions. She had ago at Carswell saying that UKIP was full of racists and he should be ashamed to be in UKIP.

I would say that no party has worked harder than UKIP to get rid of its racist element.

If UKIP voters were a race her comments would have been racist.

Not sure if I am explaining myself very well But if it is wrong to say bad things against 8 million blacks in this country it is equally wrong to say bad things against 8 million UKIP voters. I think she was a hypocrite for what she said.

The only thing that I agree with Abbot about is that I wouldn't want a Labour council educating my children - of course she is a member of the Labour party so it is a strange view.

+1

It's the usual ploy. It's so blatant.

Talk some sense out of power and then revert to destructive, time wasting, inept and self serving policies when in power.

It's the standard LibLabCon tactics.

When politicians shout racist at the UKIP you know that they have run out of logical comments and are just snarling in fear.

LibLabCon know that nemesis is near. Like a drowning man they clutch at straws.
