Renting A Two Bed Place And Having A Lodger

Recommended Posts

I have it at the back of my mind that doing the above with the rent in my name isn't allowed. Am I correct?

It's just that a two bed place is not 2x as expensive as one bed place so it makes sense to share costs that way.

Obviously there are council tax implications too but I can deal with that.

Thanks very much, sure to be some wiggle for a clean respectable main tenant

It depends if the LL thinks you can cover the rent yourself sometimes and you are happy to be responsible for all the rent if a flatmate does a runner.

I've had no problems in the past renting a 2 bedder and then finding a flatmate for the 2nd bedroom. The lease is in my name and the flatmate doesn't get a lease. They pay their rent to me and if needed we agree a separate arrangement on their rights and notice period etc.
