Britain's Brightest Leaving In Brain Drain And Replaced With Low Skilled Migrants

Recommended Posts

Telegraph 26/2/2015

' One in ten of Britain’s best workers have been lured from the UK in a brain drain and been replaced by low skilled migrants, research has found.

The country’s most highly skilled workers are emigrating because they can earn more money and enjoy better standards of living overseas, according to University College London.

But in their place the UK has attracted more than two million migrants with low numeracy skills, the report concluded.

It comes as David Cameron will today fail in his key “no ifs, no buts” election pledge to slash immigration during his time in power.

The Prime Minister promised to cut net migration to the “tens of thousands” by the 2015 General Election but official figures published today will be way off that mark.

The UCL study also found that migrants in the UK are six times more likely to have never worked than those born here.

Migrants are also more likely to be unemployed, with unemployed female migrants almost double the rate of British born.

Dr John Jerrim, of the UCL Institute of Education, said: “Immigrants account for one in four of the 9.6 million working age adults living in the United Kingdom with low level numeracy skills.

“Immigration has therefore had its biggest impact upon the bottom end of the numeracy skill distribution; it has led to a significant increase in the supply of low skilled workers.”

There are now an estimated 4.7 million Britons living abroad and, on average, more than 300,000 a year leave the UK, the report said.

Dr Jerrim said around “one in ten highly skilled British citizens now lives overseas”.

He found that between 1964 and 2011 some 684,000 “highly numerate individuals” left the UK.

And although a similar number of “very numerate immigrants” arrived in the UK over the same period they were dwarfed by the number of low skilled migrants also arriving.

The academic calculated that immigration added some 2.4 million people to the UK population with low numeracy skills.

“Although immigration from South Asia has added many highly numerate people to our labour force, immigration from the same region and Africa has added six times more people with low numeracy skills to the UK than those with high numeracy skills,” he said.

Lord Green of Deddington, chairman of MigrationWatch, said: “There has long been a level of emigration by highly skilled British workers, many of whom return later.

“Highly skilled immigrants help to compensate for this but they are not the problem.

“The problem is the mass immigration of low skilled migrants and particularly now from within the EU.”

Dr Jerrim analysed a major international survey of adult competency to compile his findings.

He found that Britons who have emigrated are more likely to earn more money and enjoy a healthier lifestyle than those remaining in the UK

The most popular destinations were Australia, where there is an estimated 1.2 million Britons, the United States (701,000) and Canada (675,000).

Spain (411,000), Ireland (397,000) and New Zealand (268,000) also featured in the top ten.

Average earnings for emigrants to America, Canada and Australia in 2011 stood at the equivalent of around £2,580 a month compared with just over £2,000 for those in the UK, the report found.

Almost nine in ten emigrants to the North America said they were in very good or excellent health compared with less than two thirds in the UK.

However the same emigrants work on average 55 hours a week compared with the UK average working week of 44 hours.

Dr John Jerrim said: "Little was previously known about the employment, earnings or quality of life of UK emigrants compared to the individuals who remain in this country.

"Overall, although there are some important differences in regards to career paths and wages, these are perhaps not as pronounced as one might expect.”

The research was based on analysis of the 2011 Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Dr Jerrim’s calculations of it also found that six per cent of immigrants in the UK aged 25 and over have never carried out paid work.

That compares to an estimated one per cent of the British-born population. The conclusions were based on a sample of 6,556 British born citizens and 745 immigrants.

Some nine per cent of female migrants were unemployed compared to five per cent of British born, the analysis found, although employment rates were similar between migrants and British born.

Official immigration statistics will today heap embarrassment on Mr Cameron and shatter his promise to slash the numbers coming in.

He won power on a promise to bring net migration – the difference between those arriving and those leaving the UK – to below 100,000.

However, as recently as November the figure stood at 260,000 – some 16,000 higher than when the coalition Government was formed.

The number was also an 43 per cent increase on the previous statistics published in June and today’s figures are unlikely to show a dramatic change.

At the time Theresa May, the Home Secretary, appeared to indicate ministers had finally abandoned the pledge by claiming it had been "blown off course" by EU immigration.

: An immigration rule requiring people to be able to speak English before coming to the UK to live with their spouse was challenged in the Supreme Court yesterday.

Five Supreme Court justices in London are being urged to rule that the pre-entry measure is "unreasonable, disproportionate and discriminatory".

The issue before the panel of judges, headed by the court's president Lord Neuberger, is whether the requirement amounts to a violation of a couple's right to a private and family life under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).'

The sample size is a little on the small side.

Forget employed or unemployed.

You need to look at net tax contributor.

Tax credits have seen the UK take in the usess + unemployed from round the world. Put them on tax credits for 16h and top up their fcking wages.

We've lost net tax contributors.

Gained net tax takers.

And insist on housingthem up in one of the most expensive countrys in the world.

Thank you Gordon, you useless one eye cnt.

So this is good news for the intelligent who remain.

If you don't mind being taxed up the wazoo, your schools overrun with morons and non-English speakers, your earnings depressed and quality of life diminished by high house prices and high fuel costs

This.

Vote UKIP - if only to try and destabiise things a little bit.

No Sh1t. Whenever you talk about immigration, someone just has to say 'but the NHS would fail without foreign doctors...yes, im sure of the millions of people who have come here since 1997, theyre all doctors and rocket scientists. 9/10ths of people with foreign accents I see are mobile car washers and or in shopping parades with nothing but kebab/fried chicken/peri-peri outlets

Given I doubt both of these take in enough money/ are busy enough to pay staff even the minimum wage, I figure there is some kind of tax ruse/immigration fraud going on.

So these brain drain genii work 25% more hours for 25% more pay.

It's the hand car washers that get me every time. These are jobs that shouldn't even exist: the labour cost should be too high to have a man standing idle prepared to wash cars for a living. It's a job only done by unskilled, illiterate and innumerate immigrants, which should have been replaced completely by environmentally friendly automation, in that a mechanised car wash uses less water and 0 labourers to achieve the same result.

Meanwhile my boomer parents love giving cheerful hard working Poles a fiver to wash their car because they enjoy the conversation.

This country. It's ridiculous

Indeed - the idea is that you welcome people with useful skills whilst telling the unskilled to feck off.

Unfortunately, the establishment has decided that flooding the country with low-skilled people is a great idea to help push down employer costs for low-skilled/low-prestige jobs, with the taxpayer picking up the tab when they no longer have jobs. Just another variation on the 'privatise the profits, socialise the losses' scam that wealthy concerns like to push through their paid politicians.

Not really. The main reason they are leaving is because there are less and less jobs for them. They have been replaced by tick box jobs for cheap people.

When its broken down into ethnicity...or more precisely religion, the islamic female demographic has a much lower participation rate than the overall female population. Whether it is their husbands preferring them not to leave the house, or else simply spending most of the age of 20-50 birthing and bringing up children, that explains a large part.

If indians, afro-carribeans and other immigrant females are compared, their participation rate is similar or even higher than the native born population.

Africans/pakistanis/bangladeshi's much lower...given most our african immigrants seem to be somalian or nigerian it seems pretty clear what the link is.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

You should add, though, that the people pushing this agenda make all their money from tax-dodging property speculation, and, therefore, do not bare the tax costs of this national disaster.

It sounds like you've done a lot of "research" on this topic. ;)

Theres been a few statistics releases...both say the same thing.

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/mps-fear-c4-documentary-on-the-cost-of-immigrants-will-fuel-race-hatred-6612870.html

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/labour-thinktank-names-immigrants-who-are-a-drain-on-the-taxpayer-6641530.html

The ONS did a similar release a couple of years later too. Showed the same thing. Seems intuitive to me.

I don't know why MPs think it would fuel race hatred. If anything, it would do the opposite. It showed islam to be detrimental, not race. Economically there is more in common with Indians and black carribeans or Pakistanis and Somalians than there is between christian blacks and muslim blacks or muslim south asians and non-muslim south asians.

Once you have made the move to a proper, vibrant economy, those that truly are skilled thrive and see no reason for returning to the drudgery and despair of the UK.

I feel this myself and see it is others around me over the past two decades.

Their being replaced with the Muslim/Somali/Pakistani stock is then further reason to never set foot in the despotic land ever again.

I know a lady from Poland who has told me how much she loves the UK, she is amazed at the standard of living she has had here being a single mother and working 16 hours a week on minimum wage, she gets various benefits including housing benefit and rents a modest but nice house, her mother often stays with her to look after her son. She is a very nice and grateful for what she’s got but I can’t help feeling this is detrimental to the UK, she does low skilled work but due to state handouts she has a lifestyle out of reach of the teachers at her son’s primary school…

It doesnt take long to join the non-working class, unfortunately. A lot of eastern europeans seem to come here unaware of the benefits system...no housing benefit, they live in shoddy shared accomodation, work their fingers to the bone. There doesnt seem to be the 'assistance' from the welfare charities for them as there does for other non-english speaking immigrant groups...IMO because they are white and not of a the stereotypical darker skin hue for the so called vulnerable.

I recall back in 2005/6, my last summer job while at university, working in a warehouse. Lots of eastern euros came. Hard workers. Then the place closed down. Most then found out they could go on benefits and get a similar income. Last I heard, most were still on benefits.

I think the 'hardworking pole' narrative, while true for a while, is quickly ending.

I blame the Irish. Comin here just cause they were starving to death. Cluttering up the place with their railways, canals, bridges, roads and houses. Educating their kids in our schools. Stealing our food.....

Most immigrants who come looking for work are going to start off as hard-working ... they specifically emigrated in order to get work so they are more motivated.

However, they are only human and once it becomes obvious how easy it is, with a bit of nous, to live well (especially compared to where they came from) on the benefits system, they are just as likely as any native to choose the welfare lifestyle.

Frankly, a hell of a lot of people would be better off on welfare and are mugs to actually do grinding, low-paid jobs and pay taxes to the benefit of people at the top and bottom ends of society.
