During Parliamentary PMQT Mr Milliband pointed out that before the last general election Mr Cameron had said he and the Conservatives were totally against MPs etc having jobs as well as being an MP.

It's as well to remind the electorate of the wicked lies.

The other branches of the LibLabCon are no different of course.

Classify an MPs job as a part-time job and let them have an other job that is unconnected and is any way influenced by their part-time MP job.....MPs and outside work does not sit well....they should either put 100% time into the important job at hand or do something different.....by the way, when I first started work it was made very clear to all full-time employees that they could not do any other paid work.....a very good policy, meant everyone was always fit for work each day and could concentrate 100% at the job in hand.

Clearly, being an MP is only a part time job and the rates paid should reflect this.

They make up their own hours, if they do the job properly it should be full time.

The reality is that these payments are not payment for services rendered but simple bribes and corruption.

here is my new mp social contract:

you get free transport - a bus pass...if it is shit, fix the transport. Thats your job

you get a home (to borrow) - its also free - council housing - if its shit, fix it. Thats your job. When you are done you give it back, thats the concept to borrowing

you get paid a good hourly rate, in line with your skill level, duties and responsibilities - on a zero hour contract. Do work, get paid. Sit about, dont get paid.

You all got so much free time to suntan your balls and play second fiddle to other companies, at some point we're gonna wander if we really need you and downsize a bit.

If you dont like it, leave. Seriously. We'd prefer people to stay that like the job and see it as a good thing to do for society. The pay is good, honestly. Ask any number of other people if 60k+ and everything paid for is an ok gig. They'll tell you.

If youre so special you can do better elsewhere, then leave and prove it. Put up or shut up. WE ARE TIRED.

Their thinking about it and then they will stop thinking about it.

We are on a slow decline into total corruption and total dictatorship drawn out over probably

the next 50 years or so. Only then will people start to rebel, but then again they might not for hundreds

of years, if ever.

In the here and now come May 8th nothing will of changed.

They always use the comparison of what other 'leaders' in business are paid. As a senior manager employed by a number of industry leading organisations, there has always been an 'exclusivity of service' clause in my employment contracts that precluded other forms of paid work. On one occasion I even had to negotiate an exemption to coach my boy's rugby team!

Ae you suggesting an Oldham MP get the bus to London?

They could of course take part in more online debates and discussions. You don't need to be in the same room as someone to debate.

I think the press are desperate right now, readership going online, competition from the digital channels. Normally the editor of [insert national network] would go, "very good to find that Mr Superstar politician is really a green lizard man, and he goes to the Build-a-burger meetings, and talks about world domination" - BUT we won't air this one. They pay our bills.

MP's and outside part-time work is ok as long as the MP's:

1) do not have conflict of interest via lobby groups etc

2)get paid a pro-rata salary for their MP work.

fail on both counts at the moment.

by the way, most job contracts for employers(both public and private sector) have sole-employer clauses built in.If an employee is caught moonlighting that is generally deemed as gross misconduct and instantly sackable.

seems our MP's need a little reminder of the T's and C's of their contract with the people.

no, he/she gets free train transport from oldham to london.

annual travelcard for commuting to and from place of work in the capital, and a state owned(utility paid) domicile to sleep in, during his/her tenure of office(plus general self-employed food allowance of about £40 per day)

company vehicle feasible on the proviso that said vehicle is manufactured in the UK,or produced by a UK owned facility(that saves jobs you see)

..receipts will be required to be submitted for expenses over and above this, like any other company

you want jizz mags and videos for your stay?...fine...on YOUR OWN credit card.

most employers would treat that sort of thing put on company expenses as embezzelment(certainly improper use of company funds)

actually direct democracy via video conference is not such a bad idea.(however I do find the propensity for people to talk over each other during such meetings a little irritating..certainly at least with tele-conference, much better to see the people you are talking to- and give an extra second or so for them to finish their sentence)

The second video embedded in the article seems to indicate that it you don't have people with second jobs, you'd end up with just the crazies in government. At the moment I am not sure if that would be a bad thing, given the current lot we have.

Skype works well. No need for them to be in London ever, it can all be done online at a fraction of the cost.

come to think of it we can do away with MP's and use a larger quantity locally elected people.

yes,to a certain extent probably true..you just get the place full of people who haven't seen the light of day for 40 years or political science graduates straight out of uni.

what we are arguing about is the amount of time they are spending on other projects outside the remit they have been given by the electorate.(DURING or directly after their term of office)

don't think too many people would have an axe to grind about a candidate who has run their own business or had 15+years experience in some kind of managerial or troubleshooting role BEFORE they put themselves up for candidacy, particularly if they can prove they have got positive results in that time.

hardly experienced in the school of life/hard knocks are they?

all the more reason for those being selected/elected as MP's to have a CV as a portion of their election blurb they shove through the letterbox.

..after all, YOU are their prospective employer.

3 years as student union debating society champion doesn't quite cut it.

I would disagree with a little of that.

probably 60-70 % of government business can be done over the web/electronically/telephonically.

there are occasional times when you HAVE to do face to face meetings.

The argument seems to be that only politicos and the landed gentry would apply. That is largely what we have now, only when they get one foot in he door, they find it much more lucrative to pimp themselves out to the highest bidder. Outside business interests need to be outside parliament, fat chance when the state is so large that many businesses are little more than rent seekers.
