Glasses Cleaning Wipes. Re-Using Them

Recommended Posts

They cost only about a quid for 50. But I clean three pairs of glasses with one tissue, then refold the thing and push it back into the sachet packet. Reseal, then get another wiping session next day.

Is there a tighter man on this forum?

In 1957 my Father bought a Calotherm impregnated cloth in a neat pouch.

I still use it every week or so.

You have to mist your glasses by blowing on them and that activates whatever is in the cloth.

Beat that for frugality.

A quid for glasses wipes? Wanton extravagance. I just breathe on mine and polish them up on my jumper.

Jumper? Hark at you Queen Elizabeth.

I'm wearing a moss jerkin

Technically more frugal than me, I only manage to clean 5 monocles with my wipes.

You will have Oracle talking about the "five eyes"

I only have two monocles, but I have connected them together with a bit of wire, and other bits of wire that hold on to my ears! For I am an "inventor"! :(

Why, I do believe you have invented the 'binnacle'!

I'm sorry Number One, That's the thing you strap the cabin boy to, on a long voyage! For we are bound for Jamaica! Please come to my cabin for a dangerous insertion!

No! I shan't!

I have heard that is what sailors call a spectacle'!

I just wish that 'glasses' really were still made of glass! Rather than the polycarbonate cr*p they use now. Then we really could go back to wiping them clean with all but the most abrasive cloth/fabric - rather than have to use fancy special lens cloths.

Asked my optician about this just recently and he said its possible but the cost would be likely at least double what I pay for the plastic lenses.

At the grand old age of 49, my fighter-pilot vision has finally started to deteriorate, and I now need the assistance of reading glasses.

I got a pair in a little case for a quid at poundland. I tried on various levels, and found the +1.5 lenses to be perfect.

As for cleaning them - I just breathe on each lens and wipe them clean using the bottom of my t-shirt...

XYY
