Green Party Wants To Disband British Army And Get Rid Of Immigration Controls

Recommended Posts

The British army would be replaced with a new “home defence force” and immigration controls dismantled if the Green party wins power in May.

Natalie Bennett, the leader of the Greens, also said illegal migrants would be given the right to stay in the UK. She added that in the longer term she wanted all immigration controls to be taken down.

Staggering.

This doesn't sound "entirely sensible", even to me. We could end up like the Swiss, with a machine gun each. Also aren't illegal immigrants, er, well, "illegal". Will all illegal things be allowed?

Enemy within.

Australia born Green Party leader tells Brits how to live their lives. I assume she has given up her Oz citizenship or she is keeping that as an escape plan once the UK is completely destroyed by such looney left wing policies?

They're like the anti-UKIP. A lot of people on the main forum were advocating voting for them in the GE too. No thanks. (Mainly about the immigration side, I wouldn't be bothered about our armed forces being solely for defence rather than expeditionary wars.)

They did have one sensible idea of disbanding the monarchy and putting the Queen in a council house.

I think she's saying she's not particularly comfortable with the idea of governments having the power to tell human beings which bit of land they're allowed to walk around in. It's quite a libertarian position.

"Walk" being the operative word. Once it comes to powered transport, they couldn't be more authoritarian.

You try walking into her back garden and setting up a barbecue, see how libertarian her position is then! :D

How did she get here from Australia? I was reading something the other day about how she went by ship and train to some conference because she never flies.

And how come the Greens had to import a leader from Oz?

I never said she was a pure libertarian, just the idea of reducing immigration controls is more libertarian than wanting to tighten them.

Anyway, this does go against the stereotype that many people have of the Greens wanting to dictate people's lives to them. She's saying people should be free to decide where to go, or at least this should be a longer term aim as the world becomes less unequal between countries.

Yes and I don't think that advocating a lvt and an overhaul of the monetary system, or allowing people to believe what they like if it doesn't affect others, is very socialist. Defence policy is good. Immigration - depends on the context. If it's in line with other measures that address problems like freeriding, costs, funding, long-term sustainability of pensions that's quite different to even the current almost open borders policy of other parties with no appreciation of national financial or social effects.

It's true that she was born in Australia. Everybody makes mistakes.

Her wikipedia pages says that she would not willingly go to Oz... r something like that... but I wonder if she still has Aussie citizenship so she can escape there once the policies of people like her have destroyed the UK?

Is she going to build plenty of houses, roads, hospitals, schools and prisons.......there are lots of people and potential people to house....or will they be able to borrow her settee for the night, and maybe tomorrow night?

Sounds terrible, all these failed overseas campaigns from Suez onwards have really made the UK a better place to live.

As far as I can tell it's the policies of the main 3 parties that are "destroying" the UK...

I've lived in Australia. There are very stringent immigration rules yet they have almost exactly the same housing, costs, space, social and perception problems we do. So there's obviously something more going on than open border policy/not.
