A new joint venture with the private sector will see the Government target billions of unrecovered debt.

There is £22.6 billion worth of debt owed to the Government which comes from sources such as unpaid fees, taxes, fines and loans, ineligible benefits or grants, and unrecovered costs from court cases.

Integrated Debt Services Limited, jointly owned by the Government and TDX Group, will provide single point access to a wide range of debt management and collection services for a number of government departments and a wider public sector in 2015.

Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office, said tackling billions of pounds of debt is part of their long-term economic plan.

“Establishing this company is an innovative approach which will build a sustainable and world-class recovery service for the public sector, and intelligently tackling a complex problem,” said Francis.

Don't know if there's been a thread on this but, for some reason, I very much do not like this idea

No doubt it will be the small guy who parked a bit over the markings who will be the hardest hit. I also wonder how much TDX will be extracting from the arrangement, but as always it will obviously be against the nations best interests.

Yes will often be the most vulnerable to extortion who will be targeted. Those with little confidence to face up to big Bro. This seems to be where the populace feels the hand of big Bro on their collar and just maybe will figure out that things need to change politically and anger will give way to some confidence.

Debt creates lots of jobs linked to debt non payment of debt.....anything collected will go towards wages and taxes...easy targets first, more profitable.

How come they're only setting this up now near the election? They've had 4 years so far in government. If this much is owed they should have set it up as one of the first things they did on coming into power.

I love it when these guys called about a small underpayment I had made and corrected direct with the IR.

They ask for me by name then ask for ID...we get into a circle of stupidity when I say they called me and I ask them for some ID from them...
