Whitby Oct 13 - Update

I noticed a high level of empty and holiday properties being listed.

I started capturing new listings from RM. RM now include a 'sold nearby bit' which makes checking easy.

Here's an update of the week listed Oct 2013. Hopefully I can cut+paste+colour OK:

1) Big house on St Hildas. Looks OOO. Dubious little old lady decor:

Like, I said, I got bored after a few weeks of sampling the new liistings.

The market is so illiquid that the chances of the the majority flogging a house in a short time is - zilch.

And I use Whitby as I know the town and its meant to be 'special'.

There a lots of 'less special' places in the North where you liquidity is much, much worse.

Still, lets not give it away ehh?

I do similar for a few areas I know/interested in and it`s like watching paint dry for the last 10-12 months

We stayed in a small 2 bed terraced house just off skinner street last year, with a tiny yard that's in the shade most of the time out back, and diabolical parking problems, and views of brick walls and rooftops.

My wife loves whitby and entertains thoughts of retiring there. So I checked what our holiday let went for and it was circa £200k in 2011. I'll give that sort of stuff a miss thanks, it seemed pricey for a place that would drive me stir crazy after a year.

Yep, parkings terrible. There's a lot of big houses converted to flats.

Then people insist on having a ca, which is fkcing nuts.

The parkign isutation is still not resolved in town.

If you want to retire, Id avoid close to town. You could not beat Ruswarp - under 2 mile walk down the side of train track to town.

Even Hawkser or Stainsacre, although a bit quite, get you out of the madness.

The parking in Whitby is terrible. And getting worse.

Mind you, so is the traffic.

The town desperately needs a proper park and ride and disallow all visiting traffic in the town.

They need proper residents parking - one house, one car.

Interesting, I stayed in this development (almost exactly by the 'Berry Banks cottage' pin) two years ago(when we went to Fusco's restaurant). Very little chance of flooding, in the top half at least, it is quite a steep hill. Good views of steam trains, dunno why it is restricted as the walk to town is straightforward. Almost like they don't want the viaduct to be used much.
