A Couple Of Warming Wilson Stories

Recommended Posts

Looking decidedly unimpressed, Fergus Wilson wanders around the stalls selling marketing, banking and accounting services at the Kent 2020 Start Up and Marketing Live exhibition.

“Many of these things on offer today are the same as each other,” said the property tycoon, who is no stranger to making controversial statements.

“They are probably well needed but they are duplicated and there are too many flooding the market doing the same thing.”

That is so controversial.

Well it would be to those in the UK media.

10 counts of not paying council tax - 350 each approx so probably voids of how long each assuming bill per year is £1,345.21?

so 4 months approx each property with no rental too?

approx.

Yep, is this a reflection of their finances or their egoes

Have they sold their properties yet?

If they had she could have paid the overdue council tax..... Or not been liable for it..

Says something when a couple like that can't find £3k to pay a tax bill......

Not even turning up to their own trial? That's really egotistical.

No, Fergus representing his wife is even more so.

I can imagine Fergus strutting about giving it the full Rumpole bit. And making a complete and utter tit of himself.

Weren't they in some article recently claiming that they'd had a lot of interest from Russian billionaires or something?

It's all starting to sound like Billy Bunter waiting for his 10/- postal order that never came...

Perhaps Ashford is enforcing rules on council tax on empty properties? And the multi-millionaires don't think it applies to them? Oh to be one of westlondon's BTL profit profit landlords eh, just as they are being fed upon.

Under changes introduced in April 2013, local authorities were allowed to tinker with the application of council tax. In exchange for trimming back some of the money central government paid to local authorities to compensate for people who received help with council tax, the new legislation allowed local authorities some discretion in the discounts and exemptions they rewarded to property owners and tenants. Landlords were affected by changes to the “Class C” exemptions. These apply to empty, unfurnished properties. Before the changes, the owner of such a property could be entirely exempt from council tax for the first six months, and then exempt from half the tax thereafter. It was a valuable concession for landlords whose properties were empty for a short period. But from April 2013 councils were able to scrap this allowance, and make landlords pay the full rate. None the less, the changes went through and many councils now apply the full tax rate on landlords from the moment a tenant leaves. And almost a year later there is now another concern – that some councils are being overzealous in their application of the tax. more... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/investing/buy-to-let/10668774/Landlords-complain-Were-hounded-by-councils.html

Corrected........At this point, Mrs Wilson points to a group of young people sitting on a table behind us. “There are 15 students here, aged 17 and 18, and I would say six of them probably won’t get anywhere in life,” she deadpans. “You have got to think out of the (shoe) box ..(as we've bought them all.)

I may be misremembering but wasn't there a thread by Fergus on 118property (or something) about how he was going to fight council tax demands?
