Sol Campbell On Daily Politics

An economy where a house earns more (tax free) than the person living in it, is a sick economy

True, although does a house really earn money? My house has gone up in value £150K in 8 years, it hasn't benefited me at all. In fact it makes me worried for the country's future.

I saw this too. Shame none of them asked what he bought it for and therefore how much profit he made, although I did hear someone out of shot mention "unearned wealth" but that was the highlight.

It's an obvious question isn't it? Any reputable journalist would ask it. Alas, they probably have all benefited from from this free money.

The more fuss these luvvies make the more it looks like a sensible policy. Apparently Bill Oddie is the next luvvie to throw his dummy out of the pram and threaten not to vote Labour because of the mansion tax. We are living in an alternative reality where the supposed leftwing party of the people should apparently be more concerned about protecting the wealth of celebrity millionaires than about poor working people. Funny how all these people always support Labour as long as other peoples money is used to fund their equal society.

I try not to rant...much but the ******ing indignation of these people really appalls me.

although I cant afford to buy a house...yet... I do lead a good life and while I have on occasion been poor and near homeless many times now I consider myself fortunate in the lifestyle I lead currently although far from a millionaire.

With 3 million people using food banks and a lot of social problems at the moment related to poverty you should always try to keep your head down and show a degree of humility especially if your doing well.

How this ******ing idiot can, without humility go into mainstream media and complain he hasn't got "enough" is sickening. It shows a level of entitlement and self belief that far exceeds any effort or talent he may have had. How much is enough Sol you worthless ******? Recently we had ambulance drivers complain living in London is throwing them into poverty and this useless ball kicking ****** is bitching he might have to pay a few grand on his 25million pound house.

******ing clown, Frankie Boyle was right on football - "why would I pay to watch a bunch of millionaire rapists run around a field?"

No. It has gone up in price - not value.

This is reinforced by your own admission that you have seen no added benefit (utility) from the house in the time you have been there. It amazes me that so many people confuse price with value.

There's a general election on the way.

The VIs are very rattled because after the recent by-elections it now looks like the Conservative affiliation might have little or no chance and in fact be very heavily defeated but as things are now turning out that doesn't now guarantee a victory by the Labour affiliation either - and even a coalition with the other affiliation of the troika the LibDems isn't likely to be able to form a government either.

So they have to bring on someone like Mr Campbell (who they will consider to be a relatively popular person - footie and of the people and all) right into the limelight to highlight his concerns and to pretend how hard on the rich the last resort Labour would be - to try to boost their chances of forming some sort of preferred (from the LibLabCon) government.

I (don't) like the way he lumps people who have 'done well for themselves' in with entrepeneurs.

He should just thank his lucky stars to have been able to make millions by kicking a ball around, and shut the ****** up.

Sol is not a great thinker. He blamed his colour on not being captain of England more times than he was ........

Thought Spurs fans would forgive and forget his defection to Arsenal. Spurs fans haven't forgiven Woolwich Arsenal moving to North London just after WW 1 so he has no chance . .....

Has no creative football brain and no future as a pundit or manager/coach . He's made more money than he could have dreamed of but he's still bitchin....

Delusional and sad ex footballer. Man up - your future is ordinary, like the rest of us.

Probably why he is being lined up by the Tory party

Ive no comment on Sol Campbell (but some of the comments above seem fair) , but the idea of a mansion tax seems peculiar .

The original rates system which preceded the current council tax, seemed sensible and each house in a borough

was given a ratable value , RV, based on rental value iirc , the total RV for all houses in the borough summed,

the budget / totalRV gave rates (CT) for a unit RV , and multiplied by the RV for a house , gave rates payable for

that house. So no banding , no cap and no need for a mansion tax.

If it makes sense (?) to charge/tax more for a more expensive house, then it doesnt make sense to impose a cap on it.

We got this cockeyed system when maggie lost the poll tax argument and maybe to save face they

introduced the current mess (rather than reverting to the previous system) and I guess that

they thought they would give the high house value owners a tax cut .

Mansion tax is basically a London tax. Funny thing is, many London boroughs have no houses worth more 2 million (tax level). The % of Londoners paying the tax would be miniscule.

Sol can downsize if it's a problem .

Stupid enuff to think being very rich is a permanent situation. A close relative of mine was in the Sunday Times rich list - now lives a less then rich life style.

Plenty of broke former sports people - Sol but for the grace of God go you.
